With a MLas Range 5 module, The 8 MLas will have a range of 351. Just don't alpha them too much, or you'll overheat. The only issue I've found with this so far is that the STD seems useless as I only ever seem to die from CT.
Agreed, XL seems feasible on this mech so far. Just don't know what I'd do with all that extra weight
This is what I'm going to use. 2x ER LL for long range stabbing, 5x ML for up close brawling, and 22 DHS to keep it all shooting all day long. 2x AMS is nice for keeping the anti-LRM umbrella spread. Drop 1 AMS and a ton of ammo for BAP if that's your thing.
5/5, Even with the recent quirk changes (Dec. 2015) taking away the AMS bonuses, this is still my go to build for this variant. Accel./Decel. Rate +35%, Turn Rate +35%, Additional Structure CT/LT/RT/LA/RA/LL/RL, Torso Turn Rate (Yaw) +25%, Energy Range +20%, Energy Cooldown +10%, Energy Heat Generation -10%.
With the idea of putting an XL engine in this loadout, here is what i came up with. I know....standard heat sinks? It works on a banshee and I think it will work here too.
With the new tech, this mech can do pretty well with medium lasers even though many of it's original quirks are gone. Switching to ER Mediums gives you the extra range to help get into the fight earlier on and have a better optimal. The STD325 allows you to fill every possible space with Double Heat Sinks bringing the heat eff to 1.35/2. with the skill tree, this thing cools off pretty well. Alternatively, if you want a little extra speed, you can sacrifice a DHS and go for an LE355. This will also allow you to use L-AMS if you so desire or you can keep the armor the same as the STD325 version and add a half ton more AMS ammo. This mech still tends to have its CT cored out more easily than the LT/RT, so make sure to torso twist to spread the incoming damage. Skeletal skills helps this thing to be decently tanky.
I like your ERML versions, though I'd take a LE350 at the last one, and equip a TC1 for an additional 4% beam range (and some critchance). I also switched to LAMS for disco aesthetic, but it'll probably get too hot, it's still runnable with regular AMS. Didn't even realise this mech had 2 AMS slots, time to update this variant a bit
LAMS is a funny animal. I run dual LAMS on Jester that also has 2 LL and 4 ERML and I don't even notice extra heat, but on my Founder LAMS I run 1 LAMS and it seems to overheat the mech all by itself!!! I think it is more so due to luck of the draw with how many LRM's are flying in at you and the Assualt is a juicy target.
