From the other perspective, C-Bills wise: Firestarter: Bad engines, get for chassis you want to play (9S lets you save on Endo) Spider: Bad engines, get for chassis you want to play or the one ECM if you don't Myst Lynx: Clanner, has FF/Endo/DHS so the savings still add up if you want it ShadowCat: Myst Lynx + more weight = good! ECM, fun energy jumper too, trifecta of savings. ShadowHawk: No ECM, or it would be OP. And they COME WITH STD 275s (5M gets an XL). Great chance to save on good engines! BlackJack: We all love to get a BJ now and then! (but bad engines, the BJ-3 at least has DHS) Cataphract: ECM, if you haven't got this already get it, and STD/XL 280s. Just...you don't need the 4X right now. Really. Quickdraw: You can get...standard 300s? Only decent savings are on the 5K, IF you plan on using Ferro on it, AND need it to master the IV-Four. So, pass. Summoner: Do you believe you can fly? Spoiler Reach up and touch the sky? Troll n00bz every night and day? Burn your Jump Jets and fly away? Do you believe you can soar? Run on clouds with a mighty roar? Believe! Mobile as all hell, but not for most pilots. Victor: Some people like this. Standard 320s, can save on Endo on the 9K, not much to see unless you plan on playing the chassis. Executioner: Shares some of the weight/slot troubles as the Summoner, but gets MASC. Tanks face, trolls with the D-RA. Highlander: STD 270s across the board. If you like them, this is your chance to eat less of a penalty to get rid of that FF and replace it with Endosteel (or nothing). But why aren't you playing IIC?
Ended up actually buying the Highlander 733 today since it was on sale. Haven't been able to fully outfit it yet, but I took it out for a round configured in LRM40 mode. Overheated a couple times due to lack of DHS, but had a ball. Lots of fits waiting to be tried. Plus, I get to yell movie quotes in chat.
Suggest this build for leveling up if you want LRM. Most material should be in your garage, and XL325 is common so you should be able to find some laying around in your back storage. You just need DHS and Endo. It is only 10 mil cbills total even if you don't have anything! (only 5 mil if you have the XL325, and you probably do)
Ended up buying the CTF-0XP to compliment my Ilya Muromets. Haven't taken it out yet, but I'm sure I'll have a blast. Credits permitting, I'll get a third Cataphract (recommendations as to which one?) and maybe a Shadow Cat. Oh, did I drop with you accidentally last night and didn't even notice? I swear I saw someone yell "THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE!!" in chat yesterday.
Complete your Cataphract series then. 3D if you want JJ 4x for dakka (like 4x AC5, or AC2) 1x or 2x are regular brawlers, so get 3D or 4x first.
CTF-4X is very similar to IM nowadays as quirks on the 4X were toned down a lot. I'd rather get the 2X here if you want a 4th one as the 3D is the most obvious choice beside the 2 variants you already got.
Indeed, for 4x it is 4x AC5/AC2 builds only, since big badabooms are better on Jagers, any other build it is better on IM.
I have to disagree on this choice. All variants are now very well quirked and soon they are to be remodeled to be slightly smaller, also really good for CW long and mid range drop decks as PGI will lower the threshold sooner or later.
"THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE" is reserved for when I see another Highlander. Was just yelling that they can never take our freedom last night. XP
Lol. Had a 4x AC5 CTF-4X charge the ridge on Frozen City in a round I was playing with my brother, a couple -CI-, 3 SJR (including Gut in a Penta-LLas Stalker)... Anyway, this 4X comes over the ridge and just face charges my EBJ. Usually, I avoid that build because it can be SO massively destructive, but within 2 seconds, his arms were stripped and he just kept charging. I fired a few shots of my twin UAC10s into his core as I twisted, thinking he'd be crushing me with those AC5s (not realising his arms were gone) By the time I twisted for the third salvo, I looked at his paper doll and watched as 5 of my teammates took every single bit of his armor before taking his legs. Even then, he was still running in a straight line, locked on me, not twisting once. I was laughing my ass off as he went down and all my armor was JUST starting to turn light yellow. I think he only ever hit me with his MLas. How that pilot got into a match with guys like SJR, Gut, -CI-, and myself, I'll never know. Must've been a vodka night! Still, when stuck to an assaults hip, a and competently piloted, the 4X is a lethal build.
I'll never understand the face on charge. Met that a lot last night. I was getting solo kills left and right last night, and I'm a horrible pilot by my own reckoning..... But if you make it easy for me.... Whatever. Thank you for the free Cicada with the nice shiny 340XL and all the swag.
Well, if you are aiming for 1-2 KMDD then a head on charge would be a sure way to get that, and die early for another game. Well that depends on what mech you are running though, with a marauder (or other heavy kabooms) you can get on average 1-2 easy KMDD doing that, usually within the first 5-6 minutes of a match and die early to boot, and once you get the KMDD message after you die you can just quite it and do it again in another mech, another round. It would be more effective in terms of time I think.
I guess...... why not actually play with some skill, and pull 3-4 KMDD. I found it fairly easy with this thing here
I knocked out all 40 in 24 matches. Helped in Timbers and Ebons that just crush anyway. Then I escorted my brother last night (sorry, Skidog, I saw your message late after I was already escorting him) I would just protect his 6x LLas STK from lights as he pumped out long range kills. We were at least able to get him some free stuff.
@Cpt Chattahah No worries there, I've missed that little flashing icon at the bottom of the screen several times.... wish the message would come up mid screen. I've missed the opportunity to team up more than once because of it. I had some fun Pugging last night, it was a good op to finish out the challenge, and finish leveling my 3R in the couple hours I had to game. Except for the one match I had on forest where the KC I was covering decided to skirt the waterline away from the engagement You try and do something nice by covering the guy, I go over the comms to ask where we are going? next thing you know someone comes back with where the F are you guys, and I'm like (sigh) I don't know where the F we are going... That caught some laughs... so, when we finally get to a point to do some good this guy suicides against the opposing firing line... We got our A$$s handed to us, and in no small part my fault. Sorry, way off topic.
I got a lot of my KMDD's in my Splat Stalker. Wade in there and just shotgun things. Marauder 3R also worked pretty well. Oddly, the double barrel shotgun marauder hasn't worked as well for me. Mine is sort of like the standard one, but the AC/5's been upgraded to an AC/10. Drilled through the front of a couple Dire Wolves
You just need high damage, it doesn't have to be concentrated, I was using builds and mech with loads of SRM6/4 Was doing elite on my Orion and Jenner, and a bit with a 3x AC2(or AC5) Marauder. PS: Yo stark-man you can change your icon to the Clan Jade Wolf I think, which probably fits the name better?
Been there! We'll group up soon, brother. The C-Bill sales got me to replace some old mechs that I love and had sold off in the past. (FS9-S, BJ-1DC, VTR-9S) as well as try the new ECM CTF. I hate to say this, but I've been loving filthy clan mechs with the IIC, EBJs, TBRs, and SCRs I've picked up recently. Hopefully, these repurchased IS mechs will get me back in the righteous Inner Sphere path!
Enileph, it's a reference to Tony Stark. Never read the ASOIAF books. Also, I've heard good things about the triple gun Marauders. Anybody have tips on how to use said builds/making them work? I like the PPC's on my 3R, but that Dakka is tempting....
The Dakka is sweet AC goodness, but requires face time to brawl effectively. Move as much armor as you can forward and keep moving at a tangent to your target.... chain if you are wanting to keep the cockpit shake up and group when hitting cored sections... break the engagement when things get too hot (remember to TT when breaking). You can also engage at range for suppression and moderate sniping effectively. Chain at range for suppression unless you have an assured hit to save on ammo. Backup with MLas's for fast movers unless you are a crack shot with the AC's.... probably not a good idea to try unless your ping is very low, but I do have to say dropping a light with your AC5's is very satisfying. Oh, and it always helps to have a buddy. This is how I run it.... same as @enileph I believe
