Apparently this is a completely different build that warrants its own thread

alternate asymmetrical version. Or does this need its own thread too? :meh:

It is, LPL have a much different weight/purpose than ERLL <3
And no, the way they are mounted doesn't make it a different role/build. As a veteran you should know this :)

That said, I like high mounts for my energy weapons, I'll look into getting a rifleman, for now the good ol' SHD-5K will have to do.

I'm running this with SPL, one less heat sink and less armour. I've really struggled with this variant, and this is my favourite 5D build so far. I thought LPL/ML combos would be a no brainer, and also ran a build almost identical to the LPL EZShots, but I just couldn't make them work (Sol's scores show it's definitely me and not the build!) Excalibaard, for me personally I think the Shadowhawk's a better 3x LPL platform but ymmv.

Anyway yeah, I'm finally enjoying the 5D with this build. :)

Great sniper, and the SPL have proven really useful for close defense and hitting quick lights (much better than ML, which I tried before). However they are absolutely secondary weapons, so I'm gonna try this with SL instead, as per Sol's build.

The asymm definitely needs its own thread. Changing weapon location means it's a whole new build.

Just like if you swapped those small lasers for mediums, because that completely changes everything about who you are, what the build is, and why we all exist on this earth. *painfully obvious sarcasm*

I've been offering lots of build advice in the whammy section. Wow. Every time I suggest swapping a ppc for a lgpls, or running 1 less laser so they avoid ghost heat. They all have a heart attack and start shouting that that's a whole new build lol.

Everyone needs to chill with the whining about everything being its own special build.

It's a super fine line anyway to determine what can and what can't be considered the same build. 2 rifleman builds carrying 3 heavy lasers, with the purpose of mounting them as high as possible and then hill peaking, sound about the same to me.
Same with swapping MPL~ML or LL~LPL~PPC, it all blurs together.

    5/5,
On another note. This build looks sexy. 21 dhs 3 erll is like infinite fire hahaha. 10/10

    @POOTYTANGASAUR

Well, they are the rules and we want people to stick to them, Space Pimp or nah. New weapons = New Build. Otherwise the site would get a lot of nested and duplicate builds that you can't separately search, rate, moderate, etc. Yeah, there are very little differences between a ERLL+SL build and "+ML build, but if they're nested people may not find what they're looking for. Making a new thread is a lot less effort than writing a passive-aggressive comment about your different opinions on 'different build'.

Seems like we've been able to post variations for a long while. Notably I didn't use the site a while because the selling and all that funny stuff, and I really only come here to help the underprivileged with all their builds. But prior to that there was no rule, now there is a rule? Can I get a link to the rulebook, like srsly. Also if there was an older rulebook can I get that version aswell and I'll compare and contrast?
Moderation could probs be better used elsewhere other than separating an erll and lgpls build. Lol by the definition of passive aggressive you could even say the moderators are being so. "Misplacing the use of important materials", as in the wasting of moderation time on threads that don't need moderated. It's a moot point I guess, just seems like a useless and odd rule. When people notice stuff like that you sometimes want to consider changing those rules, ya know cuz sometimes they're stupid. Irl I remember some silly ones that got changed but only after alot of resistance, for example segregation and disallowing women voters. Just a thought lol.

But I may be wrong, and by now this thread may need moderation hahaha. Just thought it was silly and the " rules are rules" arguements definitely gets old hahaha. Have nice day buddies.

This is completely ruining a thread for a good build, please just stop. The rule is totally reasonable. The LPL and ERLL builds have completely different roles and are 6 tons different (so not a simple swap) and as already stated it's more helpful to other users to have the weapon loadout in the thread title. The bickering and petulant snide remarks about it have been far more annoying than what the mods asked, and comparing it to segregation and women's rights was a reeeeeal dick move, dude. Let it go please, this is not what people come to MechSpecs for.

The 'rule' deviates directly from the naming conventions specified clearly in the FAQ . Different weapons means a build is to be named - well, differently.

There wouldn't have been an issue at all if @Solahma put up a guide-like post in the general section for the Rifleman presenting the findings about weapon placement on this specific chassis. The way it was done instead meant presenting two 'totally' different builds in one single thread, though, thus not corresponding with this site's conventions.

@POOTYTANGOSAUR : I hope this clears things up a bit for you. Feel free to ask any questions about this, but please use the PM function so this thread won't be diluted any further.

Now back to topic, ladies & gents. Please don't make us use some of those more severe moderation tools than editing small bits and peaces here and there for the sake of arguing.

    Back to the topic guys!

I am toying with the LL/ERLL swapping as well as the ML/SPL swapping.
Personally I prefer LL over ERLL, but not sure about the ML/SPL use.
SPL does allow for better up close attack though, and as far as heat is conerned it is better to pair ERLL with SPL I guess.

^ yeah I found the same. Pairing them with ML allowed a pretty kickass alpha at med range, but I struggled with the heat. Had way more success with ERLL / SPL, it forced me to treat them as two separate weapon sets and play to its strengths as a sniper (because I didn't have the discipline to do that myself! :D ). Then if something gets close, you can use the SPL freely without worrying about heat.

I've actually gone back to my 5x ERLL build, it's working well for me now I've stopped being stupid with my positioning. But I really like this build too. If you;re going LL, would it be worth trying with SL and one more heat sink (as in OP)? Since you'll be mixing it up in closer range more often?

    4/5,
Probably one of the best things you can do on the 5D. I highly dislike it's squishiness, though, which means you have to take care about your range, and this keeps me from rating 5/5.

    5/5,
Great build concept. I run it with a LT engine.

Multiple 1k games in this little beauty. Max out heat gen and cool run, double cool shots.
