I'm curious if you were using the 'More Dakka than you' build which you liked when you formed that opinion. That build struck me as hot as well, it gives up 3 potential DHS for a boosted engine, shield-arm armor, and a backup weapon. The result is around 30% reduced all-AC2 firetime, as well as 20% reduced dissipation overall. With a max-DHS approach to 3x AC2, I found the heat noticable but manageable, and that my deaths and playstyle weren't harmfully influenced by heat as much as the general riskiness of being a paper thin XL engined DPS mech that seeks to target larger prey.

I would also note that this build is no less unwieldy versus lights, though the increased alpha makes the most of each aiming pass. Also, the mismatched AC calibers and projectile velocities make for misses or held shots on laterally mobile targets at range.

I've been having a great deal of fun with this build as well... I was originally leery of not having any backup weapons, but to date I've only run out of ammo three times, and all three of those drops were wins. I've just learned to start being a bit more conservative once my second "25% warning" has chimed, maybe try to spread my remaining damage around to any targets I haven't splashed yet.

I wouldn't say I'm a great pilot, and I have a ~300ms ping to contend with (such is the life of a gamer in Africa...). but I routinely post around 400 damage with this build, and can reach 600+ with a good pug drop.

I tried the 2xAC/2 1xAC/5 variant, but I didn't enjoy it nearly as much... gets hot way too fast for my liking. I need to be able to blaze away non-stop when that overconfident lance of heavies crests a hill all together...

The OP build gets 5 stars from me!

This is a killer build. I've only run a few matches with this so far but in 'bad groups' sound up with over 600 damage in all of them. The strategy I this is the same as. Was running on my gauss/erll build but the damage potential is way beyond. Switching was pretty easy and I have yet to have an issue with ammo. A few mechs down and I am the target. Not good for me but great in four mans so my trammates can focus the fools chasing me.

    Great 5 star build.

When you first look at it you a re like "yeah I've thought of that" but I never thought it would work very well. I was totally wrong This is awesome.

For anyone that hasn't tried this build, you must. I have only been playing for a couple months, but probably average about 600 damage with this build. I've had some of my best games using this build (but with an XL275). I believe the high-mounted weapons, heat efficiency and relative "pinpoint" damage are what make this build superior to others.

I see a lot of builds that use a variety of SSRM and SRMs, but the lack of pinpoint damage can sometimes be the difference between killing or dying.

    Thanks for posting this!

I am having a lot of success with this build, far more than the similar 3 x AC2 build.

This is one hardy mech, even with a XL engine it sure can take a hit.
Even if I find myself in a bad situation I can usually lay down 500dmg before being killed, however typically with its speed and JJs you can escape, reposition, and lay down a crapload more damage.

I am so far averaging 800-900dmg per match, which is generally higher than other mechs/builds I pilot.

Whilst it would be nice to have some backup weapon(s), I think lack of lasers actually helps since it conceals your position a little more.

Like many builds, advanced zoom is a must in my opinion.

I just had a match with you tonight. You reminded me of this build (which I had used to run) and after the match where you had like 850 dmg I decided to run it again. 2 matches later, 950 dmg, 6 kills. My only regret with this build is that ammo is so tight. If you want to break 1k, you need to aim really, really well. OTOH, it racks up kills.

wow this thing is epic just got a 2H as first SHD and this wrecks.

After some matches I always found myself out of ac5 ammo with like 60 ac2 rounds left, so I chenged the quantity.

    I'm running this :

I ended up placing number 6 in the October 2014 tournament for IS mediums largely because of this build (with ammo/armor tweaks) and the Solahma Special 2K build. To the guys who came up with these builds... thank you very much.

    Still runs nice.
I love how you don't even get close to overheat even on hotter maps.
A bit more frail then it used to be tho.

I personally am running a little less armor on my legs in place of running an xl 280 and i find the extra speed more than makes up for it. my best round so far is 685. running with 5 tons of ac-5 and 2 tons of ac2. It took little to no time at all to master it out once i got used to the depress trigger and hold mentality. :) great build for this mech

    5/5,
This build is the one that consistently yield the highest damage scores. The ability to keep some distance, fire supporting from the second line contributes a lot to the survivability with an XL engine.

I usually dont like AC5s, but they certainly work in this case.
