Just downloaded the latest patch and took my Phoenix Hawk out for a stroll on new Frozen City map (it is great btw). And I was stunned by this useless piece of crap mini map. It has in one stroke completely removed any tactical aspect of the game. No longer can you at a glance tell where you and your team mates location and which way you/they are heading. I can't begin to describe how pissed I am at PGI. I am convinced that they don"t play the game. And then the icing on the cake, I happened to look at the store and noticed the Phoenix Hawk available for MC on the day that it was released. Thanks PGI for this lovely shit sandwich.
Based on past history, you should not be surprised. They just are not very good at development or listening.....
I don't even remember seeing "Break mini-map" in the pre-patch notes. But then again all the hotfix **** ups haven't been mentioned as happening in the pre-patch notes either. Another reason to avoid playing the game the day of a patch.
Not sure what all the salt is about again. Map size and icons were adapted to in mere moments. But the fact that my map didn't rotate anymore,... Darn it, that hurt my navigation skills! ps. Yes I do miss my Doritos, but I always found those to be a completely OP and illogical tool the game gave us. And contrary to most of the complainers I like seeing more terrain on my MM. With the new patch note I hope they don't zoom in too much again!
Well, on the day of the patch you would be playing with the mechbay anyways? Turns out the YF-1J is pretty fun to try and build, too bad smurfy is not working. Is trying to get a LRM build, I mean as a YF you must have at least one LRM hell build. Also, Marik paintjob, with skull white base and black/red streaks. We need a skull decal.
http://mwomercs.com/news/2016/06/1582-regarding-new-mini-map They're changing it again. Tbh I think merely having blips, and requiring some additional tech to discern their orientation would be more fun. I'm glad that the minimap will turn again tho.
I'm glad they are changing it back altough I liked it, it came down to skills, knowing the surroundings, I had lots of good battles yesterday with the new mini-map.
The PHX available for MC was a mistake on PGI's part. It was gone from the store very quickly afterwards. The minimap is THE most hated part of the patch. PGI is going to kind of put it back. It will still have the new look, but it will have a default zoom level close to the original. They'll also make the minimap rotate again. That will happen in a hotfix sometime this week. In the next month's patch, whenever that is, they plan on adding a zoom function to the minimap. So we will have a range of minimap zoom levels. They should have used their test server. They should have also explained their reasons for changing it in the first place. Now that they have done so, I think the changes will be cool, since they will be adding in more functionality that we didn't have before. They've gone about the whole thing bass ackwards.
A good portion of my issues are due to unfamiliarity. I can get used to most of it given time but right now I have to think where it used to be automatic. All I need is the rotation. The zoom isn't terrible but when in a brawl, it's useless as it is now. If most combat happens within 500m, that's all the minimap needs to show. The grid lines could also be a bit darker. It's hard for me to pick out one grid square from another.
THERE IS NO FUCKING REASON TO JUSTIFY THE NO ROTATION THING!!!!! The mech facing thing when it comes to enemies I can understand. But I don't see the point of requiring special modules to activate a map rotation. The size is stupid too, like a map for ants.
I liked seeing which way mechs were facing. Honestly, given we're set 1000 years in the future, the sensors should be more advanced than they are. I don't like going backwards or losing features
No, even removing the mech facing thing was a dumb idea. You only see those arrows when you or someone on your team sees the enemy. If you can see the enemy, you sure as hell can tell which way they are facing, and which way they're going. The arrows simplify things, so that people don't have to say shit like, "Target Alpha, Warhammer, facing X and moving..."
Newest minimap is pretty good. I don't like the different icons for different weight classes. They're not big enough to make out easily. But rotation is back, grid markers are back so I'm happy.
Well, the new minimap is back to being useful. I still want the old doritos back, but if that's the only thing missing I can deal with it.
Yesssss, sssssettle. Exssssssellent. Information warfare coming ssssoon(TM). Muwahahahaha. - PGI probably. Rest of patch for the most part - nice job PGI.
Yeah, the patch was good overall, aside from the minimap debacle. I don't know what to say about the Frozen City changes, I need some more drops in there with the good minimap going. I can't really tell what was changed in Forest Colony, unless the widening of the path was the only thing? The PXH will probably end up between the Blackjack and the Vindicator somewhere. It's fun so far.
I haven't been on the new Forest colony yet but I thought they added another pass through the mountain? Overall I'm satisfied with the Phoenix hawk. They're very agile. I've had best success playing as a sniper. they poke very well and their arms are too flimsy to last long in a brawl.
