Been giving this a go lately and having absolutely great results. Lights hate this thing as they don't appreciate the BAP & MG's up close and the lasers hold them at bay at longer ranges. I use this as a second line mech, poking what I can until about midway into the match when a push is called for, or running with the Assaults as a support if we are pushing from the start. Most see a Jaeger and assume an XL is motoring it; I've seen them hesitate once a side torso drops and I'm still putting half my arsenal into them. Cruising at 80 kph lets me get in/out of situations as required. Radar Dep & Gyros benefit this build greatly.
Too much ammo and bad ammo placement. Honestly at 65 tons the TDR-9SE is awesome for anything with large pulse lasers. The better hitboxes, quirks and option for equipping jumpjets outweigh any advantages machine guns provide.
Oh ye of little faith! I didn't say anything about trying this for top tier play - just simply building for the platform it is. If we were talking about TDR's, I'd have built a TDR......this is a Jaeger - stay on topic. A ton and 1/4 for each pair of MG's is not too much by any means. Ammo placement can be an issue, but that's such a minor thing for each person to put it where they prefer. LPLAS's to open up torsos and 4 MG's to seek crits - synergy. BAP, MG's and LPLAS's to deter lights - a good thing. STD engine to roll in hard with towards the mid/late game to finish off the smoking hulks with MG's, priceless. YMMV.
Even with the quad MG Arrow build I run I don't bother running more than 1 tonne of ammo total. It's just for crits not damage so you shouldn't be holding down the MG weapon group for a long time, only when you see internals exposed. BAP is probably not necessary either but I guess it helps get target info quicker, perhaps use a module instead and save the tonnage?
I could see that. I've found the Locust Plague to hate closing distance on me with the MG's and BAP, as I simply have the BAP there to counter ECM.
