New Mech. This time a 40 ton Fast IS Medium My thoughts: Insane top speed and mobility with JJ. Decent hardpoints and ECM variant., ample tonnage to work on since you can strip an arm (or two in some cases) Not sure if you should go max engine though but even something close is insane. To compare, Max engine for Cicada is 340 which runs at 148kph max, this one can go 365XL.
I think it looks awesome! Not sure if I am going to pre-order this one yet, but with the early adopter rewards being paint scheme and decals, I don't mind waiting till a bit closer to release to buy, if I do. Not a fan of of all the ECM being in reinforcement and hero packs for monetary reasons, but with time they will be available for c-bills, so it's not the end of the world, just a little waiting. Can't blame a company that survives on micro transactions to try to get you to spend more money, so I'm cool with it. I think we will be able to get some fun load-outs on this mech, but fire power will start to suffer with anything over XL325, which with that engine, endo, and ferro, will have about roughly ~11.5 tons of pod space depending on armor allocations. The XL380 capped variant will be FAST AS HELL at 165.4 kph with speed tweak but, with endo and ferro will only have about 3 tons open, so really can only have medium and small lasers, and not many, but heck, you are fast AF. Max engine of 365 is still speedy at 147.8 with tweak, allowing about 6 tons with endo and ferro, which is not much but gives you a few more options. All in all, I definitely want the Assassin, but I feel like the $20 bundle isn't worth getting due to lack of ECM. The Hero and reinforcement packs are nice, but considering I paid $35 for the KDK and Spirit Bear, I'm a bit hesitant to pay the same amount for a 40 tonner with mostly STD 280 engines. Now, I do realize the KDK was a special case, and might be a bit spoiled by the seemingly apparent overall value of that pack in general. So at the time of me writing this, my feelings are that I am going to wait for the Assassin to be released for C-Bills, then pick up the ECM variant and 2 others to master from the 5 that are available for in game currency, maybe picking up the Darkdeath on a sale. Having that said, I REALLY do want this mech, but I have just spent too much money on MWO recently, trying to qualify for these past Loyalty Rewards... and will be VERY eagerly waiting for the C-Bill release many months down the road.
Kanajashi does some really good "Should You Buy?" youtube segments for all the newer releases. Lots of good information to consider when deciding if you want to buy or not. Although, it is only one persons point of view, so you should still do whatever you wanna do to make yourself happy
I do think it is a waste of tons to put +A on SRM4 though. Cannot agree with his build style. But some ideas are right though.
I agree. I like his vids a lot. Just gotta focus on the facts he lays out, and take his opinions with a grain of salt.
I don't know Gman129 uses them occasionally too in mechs where you just have 4 launchers and can't pack a LOT of heatsinks.
Well if you have extra tonnage, its fine get +A, but I think SRM4's without artemis are sufficient when shoe horning a few 4's into a tight fit.
Yeah I'd generally agree. I'm not a fan of the ASN hard points tbh - too many forces builds and restrictions.
I will pass. I never really liked this mech... even back in the tabletop days. I do like what the concept artist has done with the design though. Never seen the Assassin looking so sexy.
The pickle effect? I agree by the way... Though I've found that a lot of it has to do with the pose that the concept artists choose compared to the... functional pose in game needed for weapon convergence.. functionality etc.
You know I really wasn't enamoured of this but been playing around with it and its got some ok fits. Not so convinced by the hero.
That pickle bust be really deep in the butt cause it curls it's toes almost 180 degrees when it runs.
Yea not many around but I have to say, I got the Standard Pack and have been really enjoying them myself. The rear ST hitbox seems really big but not over twisting and upping armor to 8-10 AP for each rear ST seems to alleviate this. Max Engine of XL380 seems kinda silly on it. With Endo, Fibro, head down to 5 AP, and BOTH arms stripped it leaves you 4.5 tons for weapons (It'll be as fast as a Locust at 165.4 KPH though!) I found the most viable builds to use an XL300 across all 3 Standard variants. Should be really tanky when LFEs are introduced.
