5/5, Rated 5 stars, with caveat: I run mine Std and can't comment on XL as I've never put one in a Mauler so far. I love this thing! Big fan of rapid fire ballistics. I struggled through a few attempts at brawly builds for the MX90, then put 6 AC2s on it and instantly felt at home. First game: AC2s don't need as much cooling since the rebalance. I tried this build with 11, 12 and 13 DHS and found 12 was enough for me.
With cooldown module 5 for the AC-5, the highest dps build is not what you may think on the MX-90. mauler data MX-90 2x ac-5 + 4x ac-2 = 7.257 + 11.764705 = 19.0217 dps 40 tons 3x ac-5 + 3x ac-2 = 19.710 dps 42 tons 3x ac-5 + 2x ac-2 = 16.768 dps 36 tons 5x ac-5 = 18.1448686 dps 40 tons 6x ac-2 = 17.647 dps 36 tons other maulers (15% ballistic, fastfire, and cooldown 5) 4x ac-5 = 17.71793
Have been using this build for a fair while now and it has never failed me. DPS (with the right weapon groupings) is insane. Variant: can run a STD engine instead of XL, can also sacrifice armor for ammo.

5/5, just bought this thing yesterday on the sale.. Modified the mech a bit from the builds posted here, but i'd say it works well... 2nd drop scored 1200+ dmg, and this is 4th drop in the mech.
5/5, Excelent build for Faction Play in hot maps. It can be upgraded to a Light Engine version with FerroFribrous, further enhancing the survivability of this build
4/5, Nice build, BUT AVOID THE XL ENGINE VERSION. Light engine makes is much more survivable and better. Eventually replace a few of the AC2s with LBX2s for added crit but shorter effective range.
Using a variation of this build in Solaris. Worked well at the start but the mauler really lacks the armor quirks that all the annihilators bring.
Not only that: annihilator has better shape and hit boxes: you can easily spread damage on any annihilator, while Mauler torsoes are huge. IMHO Armor / structure quirks would only partially fill the gap... And that's really a shame, it would actually be a nice assault.
spreading damage rarely happens in D1 I've found. It's just take full front armor and run at eachother in a DPS measuring contest. if you turn away, it takes so long to go back that you're losing DPS that you could be spending firing.
