I kept dying from engine/gauss/AC20 ammo/etc explosions while I was running around with a 300XL engine, so I grabbed a 250STD from my HunchSP and began using that with the usual AC20 build, which I believe has already been posted. That build was a lot of fun - with significantly more survivability. After grinding cbills for a while, I decided to check out the changes made to the LBX in the recent patch (tightened spread), and ended up having much more success and fun with this extremely simple build. I've been going back and forth between 2 MPL vs. 1 LL in the center torso, but I've found the LL helpful while moving in to engage, carving off some armor, then blasting away like mega man with the arm cannon once I've closed to
If I wasn't going AC/20 or specifically needing the cbills (I'd say "or dual UAC/5" but that didn't turn out too well) I'd grab a different variant. The others can actually move their arms left and right.
LBX10 is not a main weapon in my opinion. Its an 11 ton SRM10 to me with a tighter cone. I tried it again after patch and I swear you'll just be sanding away slowly at people's armor until their armor is gone and only then does it do decent damage. On a Wang you need a big serious punch cannon in that right arm and because the sad energy hardpoints are limited to a large laser or two smaller lasers you need all the ballistic you can get which narrows it down to a Gauss or AC20. You can make other builds work of course... But none will match the killing power setup Wang is built around. They really need to give it the 2 additional energy hardpoints in left arm like it got during the Gauss rifle upgrade or atleast the third rear laser put on left torso or something to we can mount 3 mediums like hunchbacks.
All good points. I've mostly been circling around the edge of the fray, jumping in once I see some component destruction and blasting away. It's also pretty easy to hit lights with the LBX, which is always a big surprise for them - it's hilarious to see em get hit by a shotgun blast and turn tail running. I'll probably switch back to the AC20 build - thanks for the feedback guys. What do you all think of 2ML vs 1LL in the center torso? I'm guessing MLs for the lower heat and weight to dmg ratio?
2 ML are the most damage for tonnage. You want to squeeze in atleast 4 tons of AC20 ammo (if you go that route) and right now I'd also recommend AMS. So that 3 extra tons gives you extra weight for the biggest engine you can squeeze in. LBX10 and a large laser or two medium pulse definately works but you'll basicly be restricted to fighting off Lights and finishing off mechs with blown armor. Once you can master that AC20 aim and hit lights with it (I've become a natural at hitting fat Cicada heads bobbing about) you will never get the same satisfaction with any other weapon...
The AC20 is definitely the optimal build for nearly all situations, definitely for PUG drops. I run the AC20/2ML build pretty much all the time on my Wang. Occasionally though, when my group is on the heavy side, I find the LBX useful for blasting the fast-movers. I can hit em at knife fighting range with the 20, but past 50m or so, my aim gets less and less sure, and missing with an ac20 round is a waste. The faster recharge on the LBX (2.5 vs. 4 sec) helps me to connect with the little guys quite a bit. MPLs and an XL for speed are definitely the way to go with this niche build, I've found. An LBX blast to the face and 100kph pre-tweak can make a pretty effective light hunter. Relatively low alpha, but terrific heat efficiency and DPS. I usually run something like this:
Yeah, for the OP build, you have a lot of ammo IMHO. I might trade that out for an AMS. But as is, a good build. 4-5
