1 Year Anniversary and Buying Everything in Sight Rewards Katamari

I'm speechless. I wasn't going to buy into this whole 2nd wave clan mech thing but now... now I don't know. I want to be done. I don't want to be lured into buying any more mech packs. But... but mechs. And rewards for buying them. And... ummm... god damn it I'm a sucker for this shit.

No way I'm spending anything before the holidays though. I just don't have that kind of cash right now.

Edit: How do I know how many matches I have played in that timeframe? My win/loss ratio is 580/543 but that's probably since closed beta. I've barely played since launch.

Edit 2: God damn it. Now I'm installing MWO again. Russ, if you're reading this, you're the Magnificent Bastard. What a dick move. Making me want to play your game again. And buy shit. Shame on you.

Play more, grind the boring stuff so you feel happy about getting those fun mechs mastered. Make the grind easier. Positive game time marketing. Get new or old players back?

Play some more, get into the game and past that first learning curve, look at that carrot...

Feeling bad about spending too much IRL money on MC? Get some additional value. Or just a bonus, to make you smile more. Or hell, why not buy your first MC?

sorry that i'm not into battletech at all, another bunch of new mechs are not really "new content" for me. I just think that new / better maps / removal of TT is long overdue

I realize that that's how they finance this game, but are they financing the development of new mechs with the money they earn from new mechs? I hope not.

 

TBH thought it was a bit of genius because it establishes a pattern of hopeful buying for the future.

Or in my case its all free rewards!

Plus who doesn't like a Clan Killer like the King Crab....

 

Slightly confused... they finance the entire game development, salaries, overheads and server running expenses from micro transactions of which premium time, mech bays and new mechs are the primary source.

TT isn't bad it just plays very differently and forces you to ride the heat curve - compare it to awful maps like Alpine Peaks that force long range engagements and at times its a welcome change.

Not to say I like being forced to play there but at least its different.

Coincidentally we have 3 maps incoming - Mech Factory, Swamp (?) and Community Warfare.

Other than that .. MORE MAPS!

It's like in "Them"... u see a nice picture... but if you put on your glasses you only see the big letters... "MUST...BUY.... PACKAGES!!"

Regarding the new content:
CW is going to start any time soon. Right now there are only a few clan Mechs vs a lot of IS on the other side. It is the right move to put those new Clantech-Mechs in the game before CW really starts to even the tonnage a bit.... don't you agree?

And we can expect to get the factory map deliverd in one of the next patches too... the swamp map is also almost ready.
Just because they were not mentioned...and this is because the maps have nothing to do with the prizes, doesn't mean they are not out there waiting to be patched into the client...

Not really. I think they are in the correct way this time. Remember they arent only giving away gifts, they are also trying to get money. Doing both things is a good marketing move really.

 

Don't get me wrong, I approve of their actions. It's genius to get people back in the game, get income and get revenue for more development. I don't grudge them this at all, I will likely buy in for Man o'war myself just as I did for Legendary, Overlord, Sabre and Masakari.

I'm in admiration of the tactical thinking in this marketing. It's epic.

I'm a HUGE battletech fan. I've got a second edition box set I'm teaching my son. I've got books from 2 to 14 (Sword and Dagger was too damn expensive to find a decent copy of). I've played every iteration of MW since #1 when you had to upgrade from CGA to EGA Monitor to do it.

I want it to go somewhere but I just can't get suck in to a perpetual development engine.

 

Well, I have to say, marketing aside, at least they are doing things a much friendlier way than used to be.
Improvements should be encouraged. I will happily spend some MC now, mostly during the weekend on mechbays (The one thing I spend MC on most of the time).

The way they do it a year ago is probably just conversion, double xp/cbills plus the cake. And maybe a bit of MC mech color/cockpit/camo sale.
