Hola, 3rd person view, Poll had 91% against, 9% for it. They have already spent development cycles on it and it slipped out. Really do not understand the thought process, it divides the community and clearly was not desired.
I think this is absolutely ridiculous; unless it is optional. If this game switches to third person view and that is the only option; I will be finished with MWO. I am here to be the pilot of an immense, robotic weapons platform, not an RC Racer! It would be great if someone with the right connections could verify this, I am not going to start freaking out, until I have no other option. Mythweaver:angry:
This post is based on speculation of a rumor at this point: If the reason they decided to go with it despite a 91% vote in the opposite is because they'd done the work, I don't think they'll get rid of 1st person because they've done the work on it already.
skribs, Try the Mechwarrior Online Forums, just look for the +100 page threads. They admit that they have already spent development cycles on it.
They make 3rd person default and only view then they will tank the game for themselves . This makes me think that they wont do that. I prefer not to sound the alarms before there is an emergency. I will never use 3rd person view save for maybe getting some fun fraps shots from time to time . If they are smart they do something different from the normal floating 360 degree camera from previous mechwarrior games.
Guys, really. There is NOT going to be a forced 3rd person view. That is silly to even think that and very "The Sky is Falling" type attitude. Stop. Breath. THINK! Besides, who gives a fuck if they put third person in or not. Sure it was annoying with poptarts and people peaking over ridges but guess what, YOU can do the same thing they can so it's not a tactical advantage one player has over another. Just because one group wants to play strictly in simulator mode doesn't give them the right to force their play styles on others, just as another group wanting third person mode doesn't give them the right to force their views on you. Having both as an option caters to both. Also, something to consider.... The reason 91% allegedly do NOT want third person is because those who do don't really give a shit about voicing an overwhelming "Yes, we must have it". Yet those who don't want that play style always always ALWAYS make sure their opinions are heard; usually as often as possible, in as many threads as possible, to the point that it is actually spam. So, sit back, and be thankful that this is the first battletech game in 10+ years. Enjoy the lore, enjoy the BT Universe, enjoy the graphics and the sounds and stimulation that the game brings but at the end of the day realize that this is just a game and whether you win or lose it is still an internet game; winning or losing won't pay for your food, your rent nor will it come in and pull you out of a burning building or give birth to a child or open a door for an older lady as she walks into a store. Winning or losing won't make you a man (or woman) or legend who goes down in history as having accomplished some great thing. For realzies! So, the sky ISN'T falling; third person mode or not. Personally I can't wait to kick ass against third person viewers while using my cockpit mode to do it.
So here is the link to all the 3rd person info. You will have the following options as a player: Play against 1st and 3rd person players. Play against 3rd person players only. Play against 1st person players only. Players can set their preference in the options menu, or during the launch phase before matchmaking. Not worried, though a little disappointed, that this will fracture play more by having different subgroups playing who will never battle/meet each other.
This I can totally understand. It reduces the potential enemies that you want to play against. BUT at the same time the up side to that is that you simply won't have to drop against people who utilize mechanics that you would prefer they didn't.
I would use 3rd person to ogle my Mechs, but that's it I think. I know my kid would like it [so he can watch himself run around] but he's 3.
One thing third person view does that first person doesn't is give you a bit more perspective on your mech. You don't have to guess if your weapons are around the corner (you might not even need to expose your cockpit) and you can easily see everything hitting your mech and tell much easier where it came from. It does provide a significant, unrealistic tactical advantage. This is why people don't want to run against people utilizing this mechanic. Good thing I can set the options to move away from it.
I bolded the most important part. If you don't want to play against those using it (because you don't want to use it yourself) you can set the options to prevent playing against them. So technically it isn't a tactical advantage since you can mitigate it.
Michael i totally disagree video games are way more important the babies, rent, and my house burning down. xD and yes the world will end when 3rd person mode kicks in. Oh man i might have to go do something real with my life like join P.E.T.A. and beat people up for harming squirrels. after all animals are people to. Pift! i like the idea of being in 3rd person mode mainly to enjoy what the graphics they have created sort of hard to do that in 1st person mode. but being able to switch back and forth on the fly would be nice too.
Did I miss something somewhere? I believe I have heard that there may be an option of whether or not you want to use it, but, where does it state we can have an option to not be able to play against those that do? Do you really think they would seperate the community that way? I personally think not.
PGI have actually said a few times that it would be an "optional" game mode. This is one thing I do remember during that shit-storm on the forums is that both Bryan Ekman, Paul and I think it Russ have all made statements that 3rd person will not be forced on players or forced to play against people using 3rd person. They said that there would be an option - almost like in game mode now for Assault / Conquest - that would set to "3rd person only" or "first person only" type of thing meaning that 3rd person only fight those in 3rd person and 1st person (best person) would only be forced to combat those in first person to prevent the ills of MW4.
http://mwomercs.com/forums/topic/107095-3rd-person/page__p__2103359 That there is a link to the thread where they break down some info on 3rd person. They state there that it would be an option to not play against others using certain modes.
hmmmm, they also stated there would be no implementation of Coolant Flush.....we see how that ended up. Ok, wow, just how many ways are they going to segment the community? One has to wonder.
If the extreme decline of people using the NGNG Server is any indication, we won't have many folks to play against. Myth.
@Morgana; I see where you're coming from, and I can't say anything against your point. You're right, it could very well cause a divide in the player base and potentially damage the game's playability. @Mythweaver; I agree with you. I've noticed less people around NGNG and have found it a bit more difficult to get into 8-man drops as well :/ For those that feel it isn't a big issue, they will likely opt to play against both 1st and 3rd person users; this may even include the player base that is trying to prove that it doesn't matter how you play, they'll beat you anyways. Then there will be the "extremists" which will only use 1st and only play against 1st. Same goes for 3rd, though I feel 3rd person users and "Only play against 3rd" will be far fewer than the others. I personally am a "Play against all who will play against me" kinda player. I'm casual, I have no interest in using 3rd person for MW:O, but I feel that I won't let it slow me down and I will play against those using it. Does it give them an advantage? Depends on how it's implemented, but if I beat them then that shows I was better and I'm okay with that.
