My understanding was that there is 0.5s delay between weapons when using the in-game chain fire mechanism. AC/5s now have a 1.5s recycle. On paper, this should work out when you chain 3 AC/5 together but in game I'm seeing a delay between shots 3 and 4. I like the chain fire instead of grouping since the steady shots helps me judge lead and location hits.

If I chain 3 UAC/5 it works great, no small interrupt to the rhythm. 3 AC/5 are 1,2,3....1,2,3... The interruption is minor but annoying and makes me think I am perhaps losing a bit of dps.

I don't have a gaming mouse or keyboard and probably won't for some time. This would be the only situation where I would benefit, so I have a hard time justifying the purchase - unless someone knows of a cheap model. (I can afford high end, I just have too many other things I'm wanting to do with my cash.)

    This is the build I'm playing with: JM6-S, XL300, 3 AC/5 w/ 6t ammo, 2 ML, AMS

So am I wrong about the delay between weapons or is there something else going on I'm not aware of?

I didn't pay much attention to additional delay, but what I noticed is that chainfire always seems to cycle through all weapon hardpoints. So let's say you're in a 9-HP laser hunchback and group 3 weapons and set them to chainfire, it seems that one full cycle will go through all 9 hardpoints, but fire only 3 weapons.
This where I see a lot of DPS going.
And saying from that observation, since there is a noticable delay created by that full cycle I think your observation is correct as well, otherwise it wouldn't make any difference wether a cycle runs through 3 HPs, firing 3 weapons, or 9 HPS, firing only 3 of 9.

I can not quantify how much delay this effect will actually cause, but the gutt feeling is that it's there. Perhaps someone can specify ?
