The Steam is strong in this one.

 

So, someone dead was yelling "xxxx How can your mech be so slow with so few weapons?"

So, obviously I have to investigate.


Everything is a guess, but the top speed is real, as are the weapons. No way to do this except for the above.

 

How, and more importantly, WHY?!

I can only hope he did it on a bet or something. The alternative (someone actually thought this was a good idea) would make me want to step off a building.

 

The problem with Steam injection is that SO MANY people have never heard of Battletech or MechWarrior (especially in a younger Steam crowd) so people either want that biggest, strongest mech (Atlas/Direwhale) or don't realize the aspects of customization - ie; FF, Endo, DHS. So we're seeing what us vets think are foolish builds, but these players with no previous MW or BT knowledge are looking at this as any other FPS. CoD and a game I helped create, Counterstrike, players are at SEVERE handicap.

 

I think the emphasis is more on the "younger" part there, rather than the lack of knowledge. I've got a group of League of Legends players into this. One of them has basically quit League for it - that's how much they like it. But, funnily enough, they all took to the customization systems almost instinctively. There were drops that I did with them where after each match we would have to wait for five minutes as one of them tinkered with his Griffins, and trust me - aside for the guy who wanted to keep two Flamers on his Firestarter "for the name's sake", there's been very little for me to cringe about coming out of their mechbays. My own, that's a different story...

Well, then you should remember that the biggest gun is not the best even in CS... seeing that I sink my past in that game... enough that I built a de_dust stage for necromunda...

If they go for the direwhale the problem would be less... since engine and upgrades are locked there would be less to worry, and placing the biggest gun on it would be at least acceptable as long as you burn all the tonnage.

Trying to customize IS mech (or worse, clan IIC, but they won't have that) is a whole different story.
Part of my earlier more cringy work is at least something that would be functional in tabletop.
But without past Battletach or Mechwarrior background some stuff are really hard to understand, really.

 

Took me a while before I can recreate his loadout... I am both amazed and impressed when I saw this showing up on my lock.

 

It really saddens me when I see something like this.

A shiny new Marauder... my teammate... the only one of Charlie Lance left going up against an atlas with 1 UAC5, 2 Large Lasers, 2 Flamers and wait for it!......... TAG........ All on the same????

After he died at the hands of this atlas pilot I politely mentioned that he could get soo much more out of that chassis if he would just hang around MechSpecs.com for a bit..... in turn he mentioned that I should go Find Unlawful Carnal Knowledge of myself...... Whatever!

This was a frustrating drop by the way...... Notice that one of our guys actually killed himself.

 

The fire group you see in view is often untrue though, but that would not save this from being a wtf build of the day.

Damn, I wish I could have that atlas though.

 

Didn't get a screenshot, but I saw this build just now. Best guess on engine:

 

Almost resembles one of mine... except I had more ammunition and Medium Lasers. Oh, and a smaller engine.

 

And no Flamers, i would hope.

 

No, no Flamers. That's where I had the Medium Lasers. HBK-4G doesn't really have many places to put lasers.

 

Once I finish the 40 KMDD for the toys I will build a cringebeast to cause awe and grief just cause I can...Thinking about this.

Anyway I can get worse?
