I chose this name because the 2X encourages me to do stupid, stupid things. I'd often get picked apart and then left for dead. This 'mech is built to fix some of those issues. First, the XL engine makes sure that if I do something truly stupid, that I'm on a one-way trip. The rest is built to bring nasty, short range firepower to bear while still maintaining a good flyswatter weapon. (Edit: Removed untested build) As always, ammo placement is negotiable.
For comparison, this is what I was using before. I knew the time to upgrade was at hand when I looked at the scoreboard and saw that I had amazing damage, no kills, and often died. I'd blow compartments away left and right, but not center. I found that the reliance on slow-cycling lasers and standard SRMs left me with good damage, but terrible accuracy. The gauss rifle seems like it'd be a good idea, but it's low, central mount point meant that I had to expose far too much of my 'mech. The jury is still out on whether the new or old 'mech is better all-around, but I feel that the new 'mech is much better at the task I set it out to do.
I've been running this for a while, and I agree with my (current) 3-star rating. What improvements can I make?
Here are a few ideas: I Dropped Artemis IV, downgraded the MPL to ML, swapped the AC/10 for a UAC/5, maxed the engine. This boosted Sustained DPS, lowered Max DPS. Also boosted Cool Eff. and speed. OR I dropped Artemis IV, Downgraded the MPL to ML, upgraded the Engine and added a DHS This Boosted Sustained DPS, lowered Max DPS. Also boosted Cool Eff. and speed. All while keeping the idea of the original build in mind. Now, the reason I dropped Artemis was so that you can swat at lights better. The looser spread allows you a better chance of clipping them, plus, the weight was desired for improvements elsewhere (such as Cool Eff.)
That is quite possibly the most beautifully pieced together mech. I've been looking for a build for my 2X to finish grinding out all the MXP to elite my CTF's. This looks the build for me. Just gotta grind out the c-bills to pay for that XL engine.
I don't really like the ER PPC on that build. I'd rather have an LPL and commit to the brawl. But that's mainly because I don't like PPCs.
Given the nature of the build, I concur that the LPLas is almost certainly the superior choice to the (ER)PPC.
I run a standard engine variant, though it is fairly hot: Can also remove AMS and mount an additional DHS in upgrading to STD300. Ammo is low for SRMs but you're mostly meant to engage at longer ranges and use them as finisher.
