A build dedicated to PooHH keep their heads down with the AC2, and blast them with the ML and AC20! I will have gameplay footage up tomorrow. ATM, have some screenshots. http://25.media.tumblr.com/f6810c00...608/tumblr_msozsecG7I1s5pi6wo4_1280.jpg[/img] http://31.media.tumblr.com/92fd398a...a1d/tumblr_msozsecG7I1s5pi6wo5_1280.jpg[/img]
The concept behind this type of build was outlined by pioneers like Koreanese back in winter/spring. The concept is called the Stack. For various reasons, stuff like meta stagnation and various imbalance patches later, it's been sort of neglected or forgotten. Anyways, the general premise still stands completely unharmed by the various changes to the game since this past winter/spring. The basic idea is AC/2 and AC/20 are a great combo for dueling. The overall approach to combat is centered around baiting your enemy into showing you whatever particular component you're looking to damage with the AC/2. Then, when they turn into you to fire, you hit them with the AC/20. So basically, when you turn in to fire and they turn to soak on arm or whatever if they're a proper player or dueling, then you blink them with the AC/2 and throw some laser spam in if possible. They bite, thinking they rolled damage correctly, and turn back to return fire, and as they do so they eat an AC/20 to the face/cockpit/shoulder/whatever. GG. This particular technique syncs up particularly well with Large Lasers, but MLs and other various stuff is acceptable as well. You can even do it with PPCs, etc. The point is to make them think you put your big shit on them, and then when they fall for it to punish them and then soak, repeating process over if necessary. Here is a video that Koreanese made back in early May showing the concepts I am talking about: Kor was a master of the baiting technique and the AC/2 with AC/20 is one of the best weapon combos to do this with. It is a very powerful technique in 1 v 1s and to finish off a tricky soaker or to simply punish a fresh player's shoulder, etc. Here is a build more min/maxed in the 3D flavor for this type of play: Note the need for more AC/20 ammo and less AC/2 ammo, cuz the AC/2 isn't be used to snipe or dakka stack with, just to bait openings for the 20. Note the armor. Watch and listen to Kor several times. I have some other videos I can reference of him dueling using this technique, if people want to see. Oh and you can also do brawl poptarts with this in stuff like River City, etc.
Just the way i played my CTF-3D pre-12v12 and i wrecked havoc among enemy-team - most times killed half of them on my own. http://www.mechspecs.com/forum/index.php?topic=2409.0 It was always screenshaking Dakka.dakka.dakka.. and then if they come close enough comes finally the finishing BOOM combined with the MLas.Beams. Was great fun! I should change my recent dual UAC5 build back to this now after UAC5.Nerf. @ Soy but somehow the Atlas AC22.Build is not very accepted here though it's a powerful build IMO http://www.mechspecs.com/forum/index.php?topic=2573.msg15161#msg15161
I'm very sad it took me this long to find this. You know me so well, I made this build on my own today, completely without seeing this page, and then looked it up to see if anyone had posted it before. I seriously laughed out loud when I saw you had dedicated this to me! OH MY GOD ITS FUN, and absolutely devastating! I've been playing with this dakka plus boom playstyle for a long time, my original favorite being the AC/2 + Gauss combo on a 3D, but this AC/2 plus AC/20 is insane! I generally throw four or five AC/2 rounds into someone, then they turn and face me, and I put a big round in their face. I've been thinking about something with an AC/2 and 3 ERPPCS or something. Could be SO MUCH FUN! ^That exactly. My first iteration of this build has a STD 280, only 3MLs, and only 11 Heat sinks to be able to have 4 tons of AC/20 ammo, and 2 tons of AC/2. I'm definitely going to try your variations.
This build gets 5 stars from me (which just bumped it up to the 5-star average it so richly deserves). I tried the 4 LLas Multipass, and found it to be too many eggs in the high-heat basket. Swapped to the 2xLB10-X Nastycat, and had some success, but it was fleeting. I began to despair that I'd sunk over 10 million C-bills into a mech I didn't enjoy piloting, and in my desperation, I looked to the AC/20... and that's when the magic happened. Others have already had their say on the high level, fool-you-with-a-plink-and-smash-you-with-a-hammer play this build has to offer... I am not that good of a pilot (and my ping/framerate woes do not allow me that level of finesse). I plink away with the AC/2 to keep people's heads down, while maneuvering into position where I can punish with the AC/20. The AC/20 + 4xMLas hammer has been dropping foes left and right. Not every map is ideally suited to it (Alpine and Caustic tend to cause me problems in this rig), but at least I can say I'm finally happy with my 3D purchase.
Like your builds on par Verg.... This one breathed new life into my 3D, that was being neglected untill now. Pop cool shot in there, and I can even lay down on the mlasers a bit more. 5 stars for reviving a mech I was getting ready to unload. Dakka Dakka Dakka Boooom! edit: Been playing this through the tournament this weekend... It is a Beast!
I have 3 CTFs (the usual suspects) and tbh... don't really like them. They are brawlers, they can deal high damage, but just for me: they lack a little fun. THIS build instead adds the fun to the gameplay, because you have very different weapons to use which in the end still sum up to great synergy. 5*****
I love this load out - similar to what I used to run (I used an XL etc) but it's seriously amazing. Especially 1v1. 5 Stars!
