Yeah, the public Test Server Thing.

    How is it?

    Is the Clan Mech Good?

Really liking the IS vs Clan tech. I think it's in a pretty good place for initial public testing. Not much issues with anything.

Lots of new guns, audio, and visuals to spice up the game again.

SOOO many Daishi running around with 4-6 ballistic builds, but your team has just as many :p

I'm sure after launch you will not see as many, but some games were pretty hilarious watching 6 Daishi walk through an enemy team.

Warhorns are not AS bad as I thought they would be, but most are still pretty obnoxious.

The new modules (as well as warhorns) can be put onto ANY mech, IS or Clan. Good news for lights with the fall damage reduction mod (80% reduction!) and the instant target loss for Poptarts.

I played all the clan mechs and will give feedback later on today, had to stop last night for sleep and now work.

If anyone feared that the Mad Cat would not be good, relax. It's good. ;)

Clan weapons, general feel and damage output.
Overall, sweet sound effects and visual effects. Can't comment on balancing yet as it's all too new and we are just beginning to see the min/max builds. Six AC's on the Dire Wolf is a likely candiate though.

Small laser: I always believed this one was a bit of a filler, the unwanted and forgotten hardpoint. Now however, it does 5 pts of damage instead of 3 it's a different ballgame.

Medium laser: The beam duration on all clan lasers are longer but man alive it's a noticable difference in damage output if you have a steady hand. 7 instead of 5, 1.3 sec instead of 1.0 sec. That's 0,53 pts per tenth of a second which is slightly more the IS version at 0,50 pts per tenth. Range is huge, 450-900 means the Nova with ER MLAS can duke it out with a IS LLAS build. The MLAS class was always a staple, a fixed part of any build but this is a big difference.

Large laser: The LLAS felt much the same, longer duration true but also way longer ranges. The most important difference is that the clan version is 1 slot instead of 2. The damage math says a Clan LLAS do 11,25 pts but over 1,5 sec with a damage of 0,75 per tenth of a sec. The IS does 0,9 per tenth. If the clanner can hold his aim he will do more damage, over time. Otherwise, the IS has more base damage.

Pulse versions: The ranges are again, stupendous. A clan large pulse goes 600-1200 compared to a IS 350-700, hell take a IS LLAS have 450-900 as comparison. The wubwub is here and it reaches far.

The clan medium laser is too good, it makes the clan pulse laser redundant. The C-ER ML has better range, same heat, half the tonnage for a slightly longer duration and slightly lower dps. I would expect it to be changed or the C-MPL to be buffed.

Not sure on that I found 6 ER ML put out a ridiculous amount of heat.

My Daishi had all the fixed DHS plus 5-7 added DHS.

One full beam volley on a heat neutral map with no movement would jump my heat from 60% to 98-99%.

Thats with both base heat upgrades but no doubling.

They will put out the same heat as 6 C-MPL.

    The dps difference is:

    ERCMPL: 7/1,3 = 5,38 dmg/s
    CMPL: 7/1,1 = 6,36 dmg/s

compared to the two IS weapons:

    Medium Laser: 5/1 = 5dps
    Medium pulse laser: 6/0,6 = 10dps

The C MPL is double the weight and 50 meters shorter in range all for 0.2 seconds reduced beam time.

Edit: Actually I think the issue is with the C MPL. It could do with a damage/heat increase and a duration reduction. Even if they just reduced its duration to 0.8 it would then sit around 8.75 dmg/s

Whoopie, you usually take in account the recycle time of weapons, when you calculate DPS.

But seems like they can make them as powerful as they want, and just balance it on heat.
Keep up the good info, I won't be playing clans yet. :)

    Point taken.

Using the data on Smurfy, the difference in dps is 0.08. Which, in my opinion, is not justified by the increase in weight and reduction in range for the C MPL. But I will stop going on about it now :)

Did anyone else find C-LRM is very unreliable below 200 meters? I found a lot of missile overshot the target.

Evidently I wasn't very clear. I'm aware that the C-LRMs are not working as intended at the moment. However, between 180 - 220ish they struggle to hit stationary targets, in particular small mechs. The missiles go over the top of the mech and impact behind it.

Yep, noticed that as well last night - they seem to get confused right around their [current] min range. I'm going to blame that on their different trajectory models compared to IS causing the issue.

Whoopie that wasn't the point I made.... I was referencing the sheer heat they generate. ;)

Imagine that Nova with the increased JJ heat on terra therma and running at over 75% speed.... and I was just using 6 ER ML on a heat neutral map and not moving.

I'm not arguing the range isn't great just how practically useful some of the builds I saw last night will be in reality.

Remarius, It is probably the fault of the C MPL that I initially perceived the C-ER ML to be so good, when in fact the fault lies with the C MPL. I was merely highlighting an issue I perceive with the C MPL. The C MPL has more draw backs than the C-ER ML without any worthwhile positives to make it a viable option.

I agree - hoping for a buff for the C-PL but bet they nerf C-ERL instead.

Some of the Dire Wolf builds are flat out retarded. Ran into a few Double Gauss/ERPPC builds that were instant death in my Blackjack, even from full health. Against some builds it feels like the dreaded 6 PPC Stalker days. Other than that:

A number of games like these with high damage (for both teams, most of the time) and a ton of cbills. The clan mechs are highly vulernable to being neutered, which is one hell of a way to level the playing field. I think it will be some time before people become more comfortable with the heat ranges of the weapons, too, as every game has people shutting down. Fine by me---I love lining up those boxy mechs for my AC20.

Btw, I've seen a lot of Warhawks get headshot. The Nova and Dire Wolf seem susceptible as well, but not nearly as frequent. Anyone having a problem running those and being treated like a Catapult pilot?

I hadn't played it for about a month until the I saw the PTS notification.

You can do some wild stuff with the clan mechs... Wishing I bought the full Daishi package so I could play around with the blackhawk's 12 energy hardpoints

EDIT: Haven't had an issue with headshots yet (in the dire wolf anyway, the warhawk looks pretty bad for that)... Though I don't think I've actually played enough to gauge that.
