More changes than I expected. I agree with them that the Operations and Survival trees were pretty much locked in for me. And I wasn't ever going to touch much of the Upper chassis or Auxiliary trees. But I think the success or failure of the whole thing is going to come down to how they've constructed the Firepower tree. The cost reduction is very welcome but I'm undecided as to whether I'd rather see respec costs in XP or cbills.
Respec cost in XP is far better, because you can use the XP you earn past master on that Mech and the CBills somewhere else. My problem is that even with the cost reduction, I'll only be able to master 30 or so Mechs and then have to start the grind on all the others. I think C-Bills should be removed from leveling entirely. That's what XP is for.
They removed Modules and put this XP system in place. They need that CBill sink to go somewhere. I think the difference is that modules were seen as optional and this leveling system will not be. Which is kindof funny because modules give bigger but more focused boosts. I think one of the things they're going for is something to make XP useful after leveling is complete. the old system obviously had nothing. maybe they should let you buy consumables with XP.
My Mechs don't even have their own engines. XL engines are a C-Bill sink. Clan Mechs and Omnipods are C-Bill sinks. I only have about 150m worth of modules, too.
