TBR-A still looks interesting. It didn't get horribly bad negative quirks so it still looks viable for dual ERPPC or even the typical vomit builds currently running around The SCR-B however, I can think of no reason to take that arm given the negative quirks. The mech can already support a large amount of energy weapons, more isn't going to make it much better than it already. It is certainly not better with those detrimental quirks though.
Honestly - why would you pay $ for these? Really looks like they're scraping the bottom of the barrel in many cases.
To be honest, it really isn't a long time to wait before they are available for CBills. It would be kind of silly to pay real money for any of these mechs, however people will still buy them because they don't want to grind (in the case of the Inner Sphere mechs like the GRF-2N). The Clan mechs are even more silly to buy with real money since their omnipods don't require you to own the entire mech. Simply wait for release and buy the LT omnipod for less than 1 million cbills, DONE. Then there are the really stupid people like me who just want it NOW to test new builds and see what sort of madness we can cook up. Really, the only mech that MIGHT be worth buying specifically for the CT is the DWF because it has the 2 energy in the CT and would require you to actually purchase the entire mech to use.
Call me set in my ways, but gift store seems a silly approach. If they would have packaged, say, 12 single variants together with the typical package perks, I would have bought them probably. Instead, I'll just wait for cbills - especially if this is like the earlier clan mech gift stores where it didn't unlock omni's for all your mechs.
The GRF-2N remains the king of the pack...a strong ECM medium brawler is a boon for the IS, and though I want it OMGRITENAO, I'll probably wait until June. Unless I don't, I've already mentioned I'm an idiot. The SCR looks nice, until those negative quirks come through, in which case it's just not really worth it. Though you could still make a nasty SPL build that wouldn't suffer from the burn time quite as bad, the heat and cooldown would suck. Stick with Superbrawler build. The TBR, is ok, though I prefer my lights and mediums while my TBRs continue to gather dust, though that 3 energy torso opens up some of the old TBR-S builds that got nerfed with forced JJs, in return for negative quirks. The rest are ignorable. The GAR, IGR, and MLX all continue to suffer from the same problems that the chassis has, specifically zero hardpoints in the RT/LT, so they're out. The DWF does include a head omnipod with a laser point, which is nice, but hardly a reason to buy the mech and not wait for the omnipods to hit. The Locust is a kinda fun "lawl" idea, but I learned from the PB that MG mounts on a Locust will blind you, so I'd skip that one too. Nova gets Missile points, but only a single one...so you couldn't do much with it, unfortunately. As for the Highlander, I don't know enough about the chassis to make a call there...I don't own any, and likely won't do so for a very long time. So, out of all that, one mech that I want. Pretty similar to reinforcement Wave 1, where I only really wanted pods from the DWF and SCR.
Sometimes I wonder if PGI is trying to undo nascar by introducing lefty favoring mechs. Then I laugh to myself.
You have me on the DWF - but I really don't see the point of the GRF beyond it being a more endurable ECM carrier. The hardpoint layout doesn't inspire me and its no Hellbringer.
Well the D variant of the Gargoyle is actually highly effective as you can have 12 energy points (2 CT then 6+4 in arms). The rest are junk and the ballistics version is junk as not enough space to carry even two UAC 5's with good ammo.... in an 80 ton mech. PS: The MG on PB thing might be your settings or adjustments to FOV etc you've made as thats not a problem I've ever had.
Yeah, but that's entierly the point of it. And in addition to this, bringing ECM now won't mess with a drop deck too much as in being required to bring 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40 or 100t mechs with more or less bad survivability and / or hardpoints and / or eating too much weight for not doing enough.
My .02 c-bills: GRF-2N. Yes please. ECM medium that would indeed make a nice brawler. I'd probably drop the case and the erppc for more ammo and a couple of MLas. HGN-732B. I might get that one, just to finally elite that chassis. LCT-3V. Not that different from the 1V I've allready got. No dice. DWF-W. No. The only thing special about it is that 2 energy hardpoint CT. GAR-B. The chassis is really not that good as is. There just isn't enough tonnage left for a decent loadout. Pointless mech. (imonho) IFR-B. Get the omnipod if you -really- want it.. MLX-D. Can be done with existing omnipods. Pointless. NVA-C. get. the. omni. pod. SCR-B. ^^ that. TBR-A. ^^ that. Conclusion: Mixed bag of mostly bad/redundant stuff. I might get the Griffin and/or the Highlander ahead of time, but on the other hand I just as well might not.
I actually never messed with the settings, yet when I fire the MGs on my PB I only see muzzle flashes. Literally,...
Haven't changed the FOV at all...but the PB machine guns fire right below the cockpit and obscure the view a bit. Hated that.
My take [*]GRF-2N. Yay!! ECM medium with 4 missile. ROYAL GRIFFIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [*]HGN-732B. A better version of 732 (with extra balistic slot) that comes fully tooled up. Nice if you don't have 732 already, otherwise... meh. [*]LCT-3V. So, Locust with 2xMPL + 2xMG, nothing to see here. Would be better if 4xMG. [*]DWF-W. OH YES OH YES. But if cause you need the CT. Other pods are not interesting. [*]GAR-B. The 2M Left Arm is ok, buy the omnipod. You can mix it with the GAR-D CT and GAR-C RA to get 8E2M. [*]IFR-B. Left Arm omnipod with 1E1M. I like the 2E from Prime a bit more. Not really interested. [*]MLX-D. Useless "unieue" omnipod. ONLY 1B from that Left Arm? Not to mention Left Arm can carry ECM instead. FUCK NO. Make it 2B or 3B and we may think of it. Or just give us MLX-G. [*]NVA-C. Left Arm Ballistic and Left Torso Missile. Buy Omnipod. [*]SCR-B. Right Arm omnipod with 6E. I don't mind the cooldown debuff since if you are using this chances are you are running 12 SPL or something like that anyways, nor did Laser Duration matter much if you go Pulse laser. But the Heat Gen debuff may be a problem. [*]TBR-A. Left Torso Omnipod with the high mount 3E. The performance debuff is ok fiven the nice position. The Laser Duration does not matter since this is mostly for cERPPC anyways. Worth it still. All in all, I will get a Royal Griffin, most wait and see for the rest. Locust is cheap enough to get when available in cbills though (and not bad even for gift at $2 when there is a discount, that would mean the locust would come almost free with a mechbay). Then again, since no new mech is coming up my cbills is finally abover 10 mil again... Yes, I spend quite some cbills stocking up weird sized small engines due to the urbie incident.
Nothing requiring me to spend MC at the moment. I will hold on the my real cash for the new package and get what I want from here once they go for C-bills. @enileph "Urbie incident" ... You sir, made me giggle!
Well, the MC I get from the free mech discount is still there, so I am going to use them on the new hero... and waiting for cheap mechbay again.
nope, the one where you get a free reinforcement mech by buying MC, got that stormcrow My mechbay reserve is below 10 now, so I am waiting for the next discount to stock up.
