So... A bunch of non-jumping, non-ECM IS Energy boats to combat Wave 3 Clan mechs that have 2 ECM variants, most jump AND get MASC... Seems right.
Yeah between the competitions and giveaways its getting odd.... On the good side it helps mask who the new players are.
Which is scary. When you see a (C) on the other side, you don't know if it is meat or another player who happens to bt taking his (C) for a walk, assume that there is no retard beacon floating on the head.
Hell, we need something at least COMPARABLE to Clans! It's crazy that the clans have more versatility, more hardpoints, are now just as fast or faster with MASC, and have SO MANY ECM variants. The Resistance 2 is bleak compared to Clan Wave 3... I'm no clanner, but, I'm pumped for the possibilities on Wave 3. Resistance 2? I wouldn't pay $10 for the whole pack... I've already got these mechs in better packages. (FS9s, HBKs, GHRs) The Marauder is the only interesting mech... But even that is a non-jumping HGN. (90T, max 325 engine, 65kph) It has more interesting hardpoints, but they are low an the mech can't jump... Just disappointing.
Light without JJ and ECM, low mounts seems kinda pointless? The Crab 50 ton with 325/350 engine should be fast (120?) JJ or dual AMS, high mounted weapons even the arms seems to be quite high up. So this one might be quite good. Black Knight might work as a energy brawler, but low mounts here (except the "shoot here" head mounted one). Mauler might be viable as a LRM, SRM build so that could be fun. But yes no ECM for the good guys while Clans gets it in all weightclasses.
The Wolfhound could still potentially work, it will depend a lot on the quirks. The WLF-1 in particular can max out at a 315 XL, which would make it the fastest moving 35 tonner in the game; if it lucks out and gets good quirks for energy or MPL builds at that speed, it could be a seriously nasty mech on paper. It would suffer a bit from not having JJs, but it could easily be a competitor. Low mounts hasn't really hurt the Firestarter at all, since the speed helps make up for it quite a bit (I'd say low mounts is far worse the slower a mech gets, in any case, especially since they tend to use more long range builds, while a light relies on weapons that need to be used closer up anyway). The Crab, with max engine, should be running around 115-126 or so, depending on variant, at the max XL. That puts it at around SCR speed after tweak, so a lot of how good it will be will depend on what quirks it gets. Hitboxes look iffy, could suffer from Jenneritis. Black Knight is an interesting one to me...it IS disappointing not to see the NT-4D included with this pack (that's the ECM version) (EDIT: The BLK-NT-2Y was also ECM, that'd be the more likely variant to see later since the NT-4D used mostly clantech), since the IS could really use an ECM heavy to offset the Hellbringer. However, the Knight has some potential...if the frame has hitboxes that are anywhere near as good as the GHR, that means it could be a very XL friendly heavy, and a tanky one at that. While it doesn't have the GHR's JJs, that would mean it could free up the tonnage for use elsewhere, either for weapons or heat sinks. I could see these making very good Wubknights, like the Wubhopper, and with both 5 extra tons to play with and no tonnage used for JJs, they will potentially be able to mount some very aggressive builds. With 8-9 energy hardpoints, you're going to see some nasty vomit builds. Again, this one comes down to hardpoints...if it's not as XL friendly as the GHR is, it may struggle. Mauler is an interesting one...since it has the only mix of ballistic and missile points, I expect you will see some VERY nasty brawler builds. Those torso points are nice and high looking, so you could perhaps see some SRM/LBX10 builds, or SRMs with 4-6 MGs and some lasers for shredding armor. The art, at a glance, makes it look very XL unfriendly, but throw in a STD300 and you could have some decent mobility with plenty of firepower to back it up. There's also good diversity there...the MAL-2P (special preorder extra variant) seems ideal for longer range, with 6 energy points and 2 missile/ballistics as backup. Meanwhile, the MAL-1R (30% cbill one) gets 4 missile/ballistics with 2 energy backups, meaning it could be a supremely nasty brawler with SRMs and machine guns, and a couple laser weapons (Maybe ERPPCs, or LPLs?). Time will tell what's good and what sucks, but there is some potential if PGI builds/quirks them right. This does, however, leave each side with one weight class that has no ECM. IS is missing heavies, Clans are missing Assaults. This mostly affects CW though, since Clanners rarely will drop an Assault mech, whereas IS often will do so.
@Durandal - The BLK-NT-2Y is from the 3100 - 3145 time line. That variant doesn't show up for almost a century after the time line we're currently in. I often wonder about the variants of Mechs we currently have that do not have ECM in canon, but have an ECM slot. What prompted PGI to put them in there, and why did they not use the same arbitrary reason on IS heavy mechs? Locust - There is a Jihad-era variant that has ECM, so it stands to reason that someone might consider it earlier. Commando - Not a single canon Commando has ECM. Spider - No canon Spider with ECM. Raven - The poster child for IS ECM, stock. Cicada - No canon Cicada has ECM. Griffin - ECM stock. Atlas - Several later variants include ECM, one is a straight refit for the D. So, three mechs have absolutely no variant with ECM. So why couldn't PGI do that for a few other mechs? Or if we use the same logic with the Locust and Atlas we get the following chassis that could have been given ECM: Lights: UrbanMech, Wolfhound Mediums: Vindicator, Crab, Hunchback, Wolverine Heavies: Quickdraw, Thunderbolt, Cataphract, Grasshopper, Jagermech, Black Knight Assault: Awesome (Heck, if they had put one one the E hardpoints in the Right Arm, and gave us ECM in the correct slot, the 9Q upgrade could have been made.), Battlemaster, Banshee. And *finally* let's list wasted potential. Firestarter FS9-S1, introduction date of 3049. Stock identical to the FS9-S, only switching the BAP with ECM. Stalker STK-3Fb, Star-League era Royal design. More Lurmy than the standard 3F as it drops the SRM-6 racks for bigger Lurms. Only argument against is that surviving 3Fb's went with Kerensky on his Exodus. Otherwise, a stock ECM mech that is *somewhat* timeline appropriate. So, WTF PGI? Beef up one of the lagging 'Phract chassis by giving it an ECM slot. Or a Quickdraw. Or, if you don't want to alter the hardpoints of an existing mech, give one of the BK's an ECM slot.
New mech pack 'Nostalgica' Note: each chassis comes with 2 different variants and each chassis includes one special 'N' variant with 30% CBill bonus and unique camo scheme. - Mongoose - Phoenix Hawk - Warhawk - Marauder - Annihilator Biggest package: 200$ A la carte: 50$ each Early adopter award for biggest package: Archer (N) and 2 different variants... Well, a man can still dream..
If they sold the Archer, Warhammer and Marauder in a pack I would certainly buy them. Even though I rarely play MWO anymore (got bored of Grind-Deathmatch) I would still love to have those for when I DO play LOL
It in interesting that they have approached Harmony Gold again over producing them so who knows one day a deal may be done.
Actually it is not the mech and config, it is the looks. If the looks is nothing like it then Fucking Harmony Gold piece of shit cannot say anything about it. Another way is to get the look-alike mech right from japan on the newer mech in the series and claim to have copied that. Japan is quite ok with Doujin type of work parody. So the name can be used (name does not beling to fucking Harmony gold), and we can have something like a Timberwold with a single cannon on the back, just that it cannot be looking like the original mech from macross. PS: Did I say, Fuck Harmony Gold. If not, I just said it again. And you too if you are part of it. Evil lawyer pieces of shit is the cause of the whole Macross anime series not being able to run in the states.
They are afraid, rightly so, of too many purists saying "This isn't my Warhammer/Marauder/Archer etc" and raising a stink. When the Phoenix Mechs came out in lore people were divided. The new Marauder doesn't exactly ring well with the purist crowd. I actually own three of the Marauders from IWM for my tabletop company and am fine with them but (shrugs) I'm just one guy.
