I built this build in response to Mythweaver's Flame. I feel like I just can't accept a Dragon unless it uses its missile hardpoint. So, I downgraded the MPLases to MLases, and added an ASRM4. Every crit, ton, and weapon hardpoint is now used. Of course, I realize how silly it seems to add Artemis to a single SRM launcher, feel free to trade it for a ton of SRM ammo.
I dropped one ton of LBX ammo; in my personal experience, I don't even run out of 3 tons of it. I dropped the Artemis IV as well, then upgraded two of the MLs to MPLs. Wub wub wub. Personal taste, mind you. I've had good success with the 2 ML + 2 MPL combo on my Hunchbacks. F*** yeah \m/
Personally I've never been a large fan of the 25% extra heat and 100% extra tonnage from MPLs, for 20% extra damage. I agree that 4 tons is too much for me to use. I do like speed though, I figure I'll try out this thing when I get home:
Regarding ML vs. MPL, Subject7, MPL is 1 ton for 1 extra damage. LLs are 4 tons for 4 extra damage, but also extra range. So I think you're right. Unless you're at a point where you have a couple tons to spare, ML > MPL.
Trading Artemis and a ton of ammo for an XL325 engine seems like a great idea. It's also the max engine size for many of the Highlanders, which makes it an economical(ish) decision.
It took sacrificing a DHS and almost a ton of armor (plus going FF) to make it work, though. I'd stick with the 325 XL, 384 armor, and 15 DHS personally.
I may still have to go with the XL325 and stay there. I don't have the cash to throw at the 350, especially since so few 'mechs can use it. Does anybody have the equipment to test out the upgraded builds? I'd love to see them in action.
I got an XL350 lying around, not a great player but I'll try out the extra 10 kph the 350 gives me vs the near-max armor with the XL325.
