Just got the Flame. This mech might just be the best Dragon of them all :S, why only MC... but anyway. Weapon groups are pretty straight forward: 1: 4 Mlas 2: AC10 3: SRM6 This one has an AC10 instead of an AC20. The additional speed of an XL and the weight it saves justifies the swap imo. The SRM6 in it's nose works a lot better than i first expected it can give a nice close range alpha when driving by. The heat is very manageable. You begin with the lasers and AC. When you get closer you give it one or two SRM salvo's. Then, when the heat becomes too high, you only shoot the AC and get into cover. You can play around a bit with an AMS if you like. There is room to take off half a ton of armor, a heat sink or a ton of ammo. Out of all my dragons this one gives the best results by far. (Note: The bug with the missile tubes in the dragons doesn't seem to effect the Flame. 2013-10-22)
Not bad but i would run this weaponloadout on the 1C because of the Missile.Tubesize. Maybe drop down to SRM4 and have more AC.Ammo plus AMS:
Yeah, i thought about that too. It works on the 1C no problem. But the lasers in the arms and the AC in the torso is a lot easier to pilot. I like to keep all of the lasers on target when you pass someone. That sixth srm comes out on its own, i don't really mind. You want to shoot at close range anyway. SRM4 will work too, it isn't that big of difference. You can drop a ton of SRM ammo then. That leaves 2 tons for AC10 ammo, or AMS.
This build works well in this variant, definitely, but i think the Flame is designed to load an AC20 for highest Burstdamage possible.
Me too But everyone is running AC20's. Especially in the flame XD Tbh. First thing i tried with the flame was AC20 4MLas STD280. But for some reason this got me better results. i think i'll be switching between that AC20 and this build a lot.
I believe the reason could be, that the Dragon dies too fast in Close Range Brawls, if ever confronted with some other Mechs within it's Weightclass or bigger due to the large "Nose". The only way to play the AC20.Build properly without getting cored too fast, is to fire from behind Assaults, playing the Escort. Or you drop that AC20 and load some Long Range Weapons and fight from a safer range, e.g. Gauss + LLas. You know what? I'm gonna try creating a build with AC20 + LLas without using all of the Energy.Hardpoints for high Burstattacks at Close Range without losing the Range Firepower. Maybe i can succeed.
mmm. Just one? What can you do with one LL? The you guy are shooting at is likely to have 2 or worse. What about this: I really want 4 tons of ammo, but where can i get it from? Even smaller engine?. Even less armor :S
Your Version looks damn good on paper! Very high Range Firepower, but practically i believe 21 Bullets are too few for 12v12 Matches and besides 10 DHS are not very much for Double ERLLas.Beams. Thats why i chose to have more Ammo + Speed. Still need to test it in real games.
the second version is better with both Lasers on the AC20.Side. I would NOT drop too much Armor on the right Arm, because if you lose it too fast, your Sidetorso is opened up for Hits! Try this one: .. and tell me, if it works for you.
That looks good. Standard LL to go easy on 10DHS. If i'd want to test it for real i'd have to get FF.
