Hey guys, just wanted to ask what are your funniest moments in MWO are. Just now I got myself stuck on the new Crimson map on the reactors and managed to get 3 kills and 3 assists without dying.
Earlier today I took my SHD-2H and jumped onto the buildings at Alpine Peaks upper side and got stuck, then sank all the way through the building into the bottom of the map. The enemy team was hunting for me and couldn't actually shoot through the ground at me yet I was able to shoot out through the bottom of the map. I was like WTF?!?!?!?!
By FAR the funniest had to be yesterday with some of my U.M.A.D. brethren. (I believe it was Fox and Viper) We ran a match in River City starting in Upper. Our lance (and most of our team) headed to Kappa (Upper City) with most others grabbing Theta... except one... An Atlas of all things... Capping Epsi by himself. Not only that, trying to command others (and shame others) through in-game text chat. Well, the Upper City was rolled as we came down towards Gamma and most of the lighter force was taken out as they moved from Theta towards lower city. It came down to the Atlas pilot and two lights... HERE is where it gets funny... The Atlas was moving at a WHOPPING 40kph top speed, still yelling commands and insulting teammates. As he reaches Gamma, he calls out, "I'm capping Gamma! Everyone else come protect me!" ... ... ... I was dumbfounded. The 100T mech, with the smallest engine he could cram in there, having IMMENSE firepower, was calling for others to protect him?? Moreover, he was typing more than any other action - even typing out angered responses to anyone who questioned him and trying to insult anyone who had not slowly trudged their way away from ANY CONTACT THUS FAR. Once the enemy team closed in on him and two lights at Gamma, he continued to try to type out arguments to other players who commented while he was in combat. Moments later, he was closed in on by about six mechs who vaporized him in seconds while he furiously typed away the whole time. Needless to say, superman did less damage than most medium mechs on his team, citing his strategy as best by saying "I survived longer." A self-righteous player who, as has been said, "Didn't know MechSpecs." Bad build, indignant pilot, poor strategy and a big mouth. All I could do was laugh my ass off. 2nd Best: Before I knew Mason, running into him and Bolththrower in a match on Canyon Net. while I dropped with Vergere. We decided, IT'S MASON GRIMM! GET 'EM! So, in my TBT-7M, I fearlessly (read: stupidly) flew as high as I could out of Theta and dropped down into the lower canyon focusing Mason. I tore into him w/ my LLas and SRMs, hopping all I could. COMPLETELY IGNORING HIS SURROUNDING FIVE TEAMMATES. Oh man... It was one of the most foolish assaults I have ever made... However, it was also hilarious.
I often times use myself as bait on maps where people recognize me; especially if they make a point to let me know I'm their primary target. I will often times lead people away from their main body and into a area that allows my team (if on TS3) to pick them apart.
Not a specific moment, per-se, but I have to go with 'Mech deaths. More specifically, the animations and physics therein. Nothing amuses me more than watching a 'Mech die spectacularly. Whether it me or someone else. The Spider rag-doll as it is shot out of the sky. I saw a Commando do a beautiful forward flip once. Or earlier today, having my Cent blown up on Frozen City on the edge of a hill - faceplant into the hill and slide down. Shit is damn funny.
Last week I believe, I was piloting my brave Locust on Terra Therma. We were a group (with 2 or 3 mumble friends of mine and maybe 1 or 2 other pugs) heading to epsilon, I was scouting the way, all clear sir. We expected resistance on the cap point since it was captured quite fast, so I played carefully and stayed close to the group, don't taking any action by my own. You know how quickly those bugs can be destroyed. I arrive near the point, I harass a little but never engage, waiting for the heavier mechs. I was very careful. The pack finally engage, I'm no longer the obvious target so I authorize myself to get more personal with the enemies, who knows maybe I'll disband them a little so my teammates can annihilate them. Perfect plan. But suddenly, oh my god screen's all shaking, what's happening, the volcano's awakening or what? Took me several seconds to figure out I had been caught in a friendly air strike. I'm almost dead, one of my leg is blown off and the other is severely damaged. But I'm alive, and since it seems the enemies have been defeated I slowly walk on the point to cap. Peaceful moment, I'm joking with the friends about what just happened, hahaha, first time I take serious damage from an air strike and it has to be friendly fire, hahaha, Locust a crap mechs, hahaha.... and suddenly I'm exploding! "Killed by [one of my friend I don't want to shame ^^]" it said... The brave fellow swore he didn't fire a single weapon. I suppose he didn't see me and just walked on me with his Highlander. That's how after being so careful, I'm destroyed by 95% friendly fire
About a month ago on Terra Therma some time around 1am, was running PUG drops and it was the 3rd time in a row on that map.... "I hate this map!!!" I typed..... "I'm tired of this... I'm just waiting here" someone else typed. "Plans?" Another asked..... "Let's just wait for them here"..... So we did... The whole team, and it worked. One by one little red puggies were vaporized by our Lazy onslaught until their final push of 7 Mechs. when it was all over I think we lost an Atlas and 2 Catties.... in the dead silence following the fray a lone mechwarrior types "Did that really work?!!!" Murry Cattie with all the trimmings... 8,397,200 CBills! Cool new colors to make that Cattie look Xtra special... 2000 MC! Having the wife call to me from the livingroom "Michael, are you okay?" as I laugh hysterically over my teammate's final comment........ Priceless! Best match I had all night. I racked up a good 700+ in damage, & 4 kills to call my own. hear: uber okazaĆy
Both recent. First Last night I was playing with Artillery and Air strikes again. Found a perfect opportunity to drop an airstrike on an over-heated Atlas. Smoke goes up, nailed him with 2 alphas of MPLas in the CT. Watched as 3 bombs hit him across the CT. YESSS! But wait, that was over 150 dmg I know hit his CT, why is he not dead? ...Because he was already dead just before I popped the smoke. Just a standing corpse Second A super hot 6 LLas Battlemaster build was our last mech standing vs the last enemy mech, a Highlander. The Battlemaster was heavily damaged and the Highlander was pretty fresh in comparison. So they are duking it out close range and the Battlemaster does an alpha with his 6 LLas... Overheats massively, and missed with most of his attempt. The Highlander saw this and took the opportunity to get right in front of our Battlemaster and perform a 10 second dance until the Battlemaster just started to boot up again. As soon as the power was back, the Highlander shot a single gauss round through his chest. Game.
Something similar, only that I am the last mech standing as a locust, and is in enemy base that is almost captured, the rest of the enemy is far away except for a spider. I shot him with an alpha and overheat. He dances as he shoot me with his single/double MLas, I reboot, but in this story I alpha him again with my 5x MLas, dead spider, and game. Cudos for the dead teammates that is helping me to stall other enemy from coming back home. Thanks guys!
I have two, both on Frozen City. It's my worst map, so sometimes I get some absurd notions and see if they can change my losing streak. First: SRM24 Catapult vs Atlas cave rush... in the days before Seismic. We detect a lance of mixed-weight mechs coming through the caves to stealth-cap the downhill base. My teammates focus on the smaller 'mechs leaving me to handle the Atlas who was hanging out on the ramp dispensing pain. I took the glitch ridge from the dropship over to the cave and alpha'd the atlas in the back. Before he could turn around, I jumped down from the ramp, waited for my JJs to recharge. I waited long enough from him to complete is 180, then jumped up and alpha'd his back again. Lather, rinse, repeat. By the time I dropped him, I'd stripped his mech of almost all of its armor and structure (SRM, spread, y'know?). Meanwhile, I still had most of my armor having only been grazed by his beam weapons. Of course, he pissed and moaned about how SRMs were broken, laid in all manner of accusations about my preference of sexual partners. I just laughed and laughed. Second: Ninja-tanking with a Spider. We're nearing the end of the match, one lance (some of who were on TS with me) is busy finishing off the bulk of the enemy forces and the my commander and I (on TS) are in the backfield having just swatted the last of the harassers from his Stalker. He was a matchstick, no weapons, no armor. I'd managed to only get a few scratches. We get just enough time to catch our breath, and up stomps this nearly fresh Atlas. (I guess he decided to be fashionably late to the "Beat on the Stalker" party.) Our commander called out for help, and I was the only other pilot within a kilometer. So, I line myself up between my commander and the Atlas, and charge. I hit the Jump Jets and swing my torso left to take the Gauss shot in the RT. I back up, jump again and soak his lasers with my CT and legs. I've been mentally counting the Gauss's recycle time and I jump up again just in time to soak Gauss shot with my LT. At this point, my Spider is mostly holes. The Atlas turns his attention to me, but before he can get his third volley off, my team rounds the bend and cores him from behind in a single salvo, ending the match.
I've had a few mutual destruction moments... They have cracked me up. License taken; Another blast of frigid air cuts through my cockpit aa my lance mounts the west side of Coward's Ridge in the great Frozen City. My comms crackle, "No contact through D6." "Mount the ridge. Push E5. Stay close - Stay in cover." The ground shakes as 450 tons march downhill. "Anyone have contact? - Clear through enemy base. May be lying in a trap." our scouting Commando calls, nerves setting in. "No Seismic activity." Our six man Hammer marches towards the enemy's home, scanning every direction for some sign of the eleven remaining Mercs waiting to collect our scrap. CRACK -THUD! Our Jagermech falls to the ground in a heap. "What was that! Anyone see direction of fire." "I was hit from behind. PPC fire took out my shoulder." Our five remaining mechs spin around to see most of the enemy force coming up from Theta Valley. "Raven Down. Highlander at enemy base." ... We're surrounded. The trap sets it's teeth. "My core is open." - "So are both my back ST." "Mine, too." Frantic pilots call over comms as they shuffle to get behind the cover of their surroundings. "Two enemies at our base - Incoming." calls our Atlas holding our defense. "Hold our line here, let them come down to us." commands our Lance Leader. Two enemy heavies round the buildings between our surviving Hammer. The night lights up with laser fire and heavy ballistics. Both enemy mechs crumble. "Hold position!" The rest of the enemy pushes around from both sides of our position. A massive melee ensues. LRMs rain down on us as we maneuver to find cover and take down our aggressors. "Craig, get that LRM boat down!" A Dragon races away from the scrum to find the artillery. "I'm down." "I'm legged." "No front armor left." [size=8pt]"Down." I watch my last remaining lancemate drop as I cut the back out of his killer. "LRM and last enemy scout down." Craig boasts as smoke pours out of mechs piled around me, "Any visual on last enemy mech?" I ask. "D2/D3 - Jump sniper, watch yourself." "Craig, I'll take D-line, you go for his base." I call. My right arm is torn off, along with my Autocannons - left side torso opened up, exposing my XL engine, I only have 10 SRMs left and my Large Lasers. I cautiously move towards the enemy's last known position. "Movement! D3, moving between the buildings headed in your direction!" my comrade cautions. I lift off, my Victor soaring through the air, billowing smoke from it's wounds. I spot my enemy, lighting his left side with my lasers. PPC fire sails past my cockpit. I land, quickly turning to gain cover, watching my enemy's movement through seismic. He rounds the corner at 150m - I fire all I've got - Two Large Lasers and 10 SRMs at his wounded shoulder. My mech explodes as his PPCs and Autocannon punch through my CT. I feel defeat... until... I see my SRMs had taken down this surly sniping sumbitch as I fell. "MUTUALLY ASSURED DESTRUCTION!" I yell, part laughing, part pissed, completely victorious. (One of my favorite drops of all time with my British friends. Great round, tons of fun. Very intense positioning and combat. Loved it.)
Ok, I have a new funnest moment... Last night I was PUG dropping, as I was grinding Shadowhawks (working on the 2D2 right now using 1x AC20 and 2x MLas). Anyways, I'm not saying the guys name but it had WMD at the end of it. He was in a Shadowhawk both matches. The first match someone (sadly, it wasn't me, this time) blew off his leg during the combat and he goes "megafaggot" in public chat... and I was whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? So I typed in my team chat (as I was already dead) "Leave him be, go and cap and let him limp it off". Cause NOTHING is worse than being the last guy alive, missing a leg, being a super tryhard and not being able to stop a cap. The PUG team gloriously obliged and then he tells the Locust (who was ROFLStomping him) that he's a "Coward!!" cause he clearly left him alone rather than killed him. Whaaaaa? I don't even! Whatever, the match is over, we win, thanks for coming out! But wait..... Next match I drop in to; low and behold guess who is on the OPFOR? I quickly fill in my PUG group as to what he is driving and his attitude and they are all checking in with "Leg the loudmouth? Got it" and "Will do man, lol will do". Combat goes on and I manage to get a bead on this guys location. I wait till he is all running around shooting at stuff and I jump into the slot behind him... BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM goes the Boomstick(tm) Well, guess who strips one of his legs off? Me!!! Then I leave him limping around and exclaim "Damn dude, that leg is a real issue for you" and he responds with "I'm reporting you for harassment" so I'm all like "Hang on, let me smile for the screenshot" (cause nothing I did was harassing and legging is a viable tactic yeah?) so I smile all big and toothy for his screenshot. Then he tells me "Shooting guns off is fine, shooting your mouth off is for assholes" at which point I just smiled again then went back and killed him. Moral of the story? Don't be a dick, Dick!
Why get mad when you get legged or whatever... well unless it is friendly fire. How about this for a story... full speed locust running into an atlas... dead locust. True story bro. That having saide I actually dislocate someone's arm when I was brawling with my thunderbolt. My weapons were cycling and I was jumping into this Victor... and his arm falls off. Granted, he is quite beat up to start with, missing armor in a few places.
That reminds me of when a buddy and I had all of our weapons stripped and there was 1 enemy mech left. We continued running into him until the armor on both of his legs was gone, but then he finally killed us. Would have been an epic ending to a match! Still could help laughing maniacally
2 moments were very fun for me, at least when I remind them to me: 1/ First match in MWO. My friend who makes me play to MWO talked to me about mech and my choice for my first match : Catapult is a good heavy mech. The C4 is mainly a LRM launcher. Beware of its huge torso and cockpit... We launched, I head toward battle, pop my cockpit above a small hill... Plenty of red spot, big noise, death from an headshot. Good introduction to MWO, I should have been more attentive to my friend's advices. 2/ My friend (the same) was telling me to try light mech. He takes its locust and so do I. I told him I will follow him as I am really not a light pilot. We run to scout a bit (damn those lights go to fast for me), make a huge circle and fall directly in the enemy team which was clearly waiting for us. Much for my light try, I will continue with heavier mech a little bit more
Running round in Canyon Network with two other Spider 5Ks. We ran through their base and into the back of their team, where we found a poor, lone missile-boat Stalker. We just surrounded him at close range and started laying into him with 12 machine guns. Funniest thing I've seen in this game - we were cackling like mad. He only lasted seconds, but it must have felt like a long time... Poor guy, we felt so bad we actually apologised afterwards...
