I have MW2(DOS), GB(DOS), MW2Mercs, MW3, MW3 PM, MW4, MW4 BK, MW4 Mercs with Mek Paks MechCommander 1&2 and MWLL all loaded and running on my computer.... IMHO All of the games have their high points. MW2's mission design | Maybe it was just me, but I really enjoyed MW2's missions. MW3's everything destructuble concept and command control structure | MW3 was buggy & the mechs moved like marionets, but I really liked the command structure used for lancemates & you could pretty much destroy everything... I also liked that the cockpit showed damage. MW4's pace of gameplay, the MechLab structure with drag and drop mech customization & the ability to save mech configurations. And once MekTek got ahold of it and added a full array of mechs and weapons.... MWLL's full battle field concept with mechs, land & air vehicles... And IMO their map design... I was on there just last night... I do so miss those maps.... PGI could learn a lot from those designs. MWO's mech design, weapon effects.... Cryengine 3 I know that CW & the so called Clan Invasion are supposedly on the horizon, but is this really what you imagined MechWarrior to be? For me, take the best points of the past games, give me a strong single player campaign with options for co-operative play and community expansion, give me Solaris PvP with all the trimmings. Pay Smurfy some cash and give us a real MechLab. And finally, give me real community warfare where my actions on the battlefield mean something past the next drop. This is me, Given the choice, what kind of MechWarrior game would you want?
I was a big Fan of MW2 & 3. So i vote for a Mix of them Both including a Remix of the classic Soundtrack with the Visuals of CryEngine plus CW and i'll be happy for the rest of my life. MW4 didn't impress me from the Looks&Feel even though it was nice for the time it came out, so didn't play it till the End. What i did enjoy was MechAssault1 and especially the Sequel: Lone Wolf (Xbox Classic). That was the last MW i played before i waited for the Launch of MWO. During the Time of MWLL i played a lot of other Games on my XBOX360, e.g. Borderlands, Halo etc. And on PC i only played LOL before MWO came out , so can only say that from my outward impressions MWLL does a lot more right compared to MWO. Ow, btw, for all the younger players, who never ever played the Predecessors: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7w88yQVlVY p.s. you forgot that in MW3 there were Infanteries!!! Yeah man, where are the Infanteries in MWO?? I need some Creeps, just like in LOL
I really enjoyed MW3, but for reasons unknown, I was always partial to the music on Mechcommander Gold, especially the linked track. Everytime I hear it, I seem to subconsiosly add in sound effects and voiceovers from the game. Maybe I should remaster it, and set it to an infinite loop while I play. http://puu.sh/7I3vP/81929a3b40.mp3
The only Mechwarrior games I can properly remember are MW4:Vengeance and the MekPak Mercenaries upgrade I randomly found (and that was probably one of the best moments of my life, no joke) several years later. I picked up a used copy of MW2 when I was 7 (Mommy i want the robot game) and I remember that I had no idea what I was doing (didn't understand english), and still enjoying the hell out of it. I should probably revisit it once my tolerance for low graphics improves a bit. For the rest I've played MechCommander 2 which is also a game I had tons of fun with, especially since it's very close to a concept that I still want to see: a fully modular RTS where you have to preselect a set of self-designed modular units to build. The ability to select more or less mechs as long as it fits in the tonnage limit, and equipping them with your preferred weapons is already awesome, but sadly only focused on squad-based combat instead of having bases to maintain. I didn't play Living Legends for some reason, as far as I can remember it was that my rig was too slow and having pre-set variants instead of a way to customise was a huge let-down. So that's basically my experience with MW before MW:O came around. The more pronounced experiences of the Skidoge make me feel I'm really born too late . Everything sounds awesome in its own way.
MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf was pretty cool. I'd say one of the very best games for the Xbox Classic, with awesome visuals (was one of the latest games of the Xbox Classic Era before the Xbox360 came out) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgXLLB0n5Q0
MW3 i though was and is the best of the bunch. The mechs move the best (its not Hawken, its a mech) You could picture in picture zoom in, you could target specific parts and as you said, the environment was destructible. Recently, MWLL had it right and was doing so many things correctly. So emulate that if anything. The maps i thought were much more interesting than the current crop on MWO. MWO is slowing creeping towards MWLL, but not there yet.
MW3 will always have a place in my heart, but the campaign and multiplayer experience from MW4 was great. I really enjoyed the missions and the story. The multiplayer was fun and engaging. Probably my favorite memory was grouping with a clan and jumping up sky scrapers. We would all have Pumas with lots of jump jets and jump from roof top to roof top. It was hilarious fun. If any of you guys miss the campaign from previous titles or the scenarios, I'm in the planning/thinking stages of a league that you might be interested in. All the details so far can be found on Mechspecs here: http://www.mechspecs.com/forum/index.php?topic=6101.0 and on the official forums here: http://mwomercs.com/forums/topic/154142-comstar-scenario-league-kickstarter/
Given the choice, a excellent game at a good price! No bullshit, no long awaited patches and when whom ever, wink wink, makes it, when "they say it goes hot, it goes all the way from the package to your pc!
I played the games back to Mechwarrior for their campaigns really so MWO has always been a very separate experience. Loved those. Tried MW LL and hated it not for the game but for the community.... awful. Throughly enjoying the contest with other players in MWO but I do generally avoid the main forums as I see what happened to those LL players.....
I have this clip saved on my computer. When my wife started to get interested in what I was playing, and asked "How did you get into this?" I showed her this clip..... then I pulled out some of my Battletech Tech Readouts from the 80's She called me a geek, but stayed to look at all of it.
yeah great clip... nice to see the development over two decades (Next Year is 20th Anniversary of MW2!) I really love, that this genre still exists in the game industry. What i still miss is a great Hollywood Production of the Battletech Universe. btw. did anyone own this Nintendo DS game? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFStKUUxmwI
My history with Mechwarrior is a little odd... I first played the original Mechwarrior with my Uncle on his old computer, along with Commander Keen 1-6, although at the time I thought the game was too scary/hard (The stupid evil moon temple in Commander Keen 4 freaked me out too) as I was pretty young around then (mid 90s), and I didn't touch the franchise again until Mechassault on the Xbox. I loved those, and it really got me back into Mechwarrior in time to buy MW4: Vengeance/Mercenaries with a group of buddies. I loved the single player aspect with both Mechassault and Mechwarrior, but I really did love the mechbay and the "realism" of having to actually worry about ammo and armor. (In Mechassault, you can get little "powerup" things that upgrade ammo, or refill health, and all weapons are unlimited ammo anyways) Near the end of MW4, when the MekTek packs were coming out, I hooked up my Steel Battalion Controller (look it up if you haven't, it's a beast) to my PC and enjoyed some of the most fun Mechwarrior time of my life! All this eventually got me to buy Crysis: Warhead so I could play Living Legends, but for some reason it never really drew me in. Either way, as soon as I heard of Mechwarrior 5/Reboot, I signed up to learn more, and eventually signed up for the MWO Closed Beta. (I have an old account, a poorly misspelled "Sucifraf" account in MWO that still hasn't been used, but registered on the forum as of like October 2012, so take that all y'all who ever called me a noob in game!) Somehow I think I got sidetracked in what I wanted to say in regards to this topic... I'll keep it so you can see where I come from hopefully. I REALLY want(ed) a single player campaign for the latest Mechwarrior game. I love the whole universe, and all the lore involved in it. Being able to play in the Battletech universe was wonderful, even if I couldn't really represent House Kurita very well (Hard to be any of the MW4 playable units and be on friendly terms with the DC). I also love playing co-operatively, and I would have paid good money to have a new Mechwarrior with Single player and Co-op. I did download the co-op mod for MW4, and therefore held some hope that even if the game only was released with SP and MP, someone out there could make one. I am happy with the mechlab in MWO, in that I get to play around a lot with the mechs, and builds. I also really enjoy the available mechs, as I did not know of many of them. My biggest gripe about MWO is the lack of meaning of each match. All in all, I would have actually preferred to have a Mechwarrior with a nice SP aspect (and story to go along) and private multiplayer match making if they couldn't implement a working CW. Sorry for the long winded explanation, that's a result of staying up late because my dog is sick :/ Also, @Blagg Zear, what ever happened to that Battletech movie that was "in the works"? Last I think I heard was that it is in "Development Hell" and people kinda just forgot about it. In my overly biased opinion, I think the Battletech Universe would be an awesome setting for movies/tv excluding the racist stereotypes (although, I don't really take them too seriously, so I don't find it offensive)
@Sucitraf Wow Exactly my experience what you wrote. The good old times. About the movie - i think we still have to wait until Mech-Movies become popular again. Pacific Rim was a good step into that direction. But atm Superheroes and Godzillas rule the World. Just need a good director like James Cameron or Peter Jackson get interested to Battletech. For now Hollywood is not really interested.
Errrm.. ok there are no good examples from Hollywood. But Mecha-Movies were very popular through several epic productions from Japan in the past. E.g. NGE. Hollywood just needs to Revive the Topic. Pacific Rim was the first step. Let's hope that in the Future the producers take this more seriously. Problem is that production costs for epic Scifi-Movies are immensively high, so that's why we don't see any great Space Movies in the last yrs.
It would take a bit of doing. Seriously, I haven't seen it yet (Brand new bluray sitting by my TV unopened) but successful movies like Pacific Rim, Transformers, and even mech inspired movies like District 9, Battleship help the cause, but it will take a lot to get a MechWarrior movie. & PGI is not helping. Peter Jackson would be the only one that could pull it off. Noone past the games has any clue as to the back story, and though some of the books are good, you have to really be a fan to have read any of them. I fear unless the movie has a big name attached we won't see anything anytime soon.
Yeah, I do remember Robot Jox. But, were they popular? I mean apart from people playing Battletech or similar games? Only people I know who know about this movie ist the Battletech crowd.
Considering I got the picture from shittymovienight.com It was posted in humor..... but ofcourse now I have to find the movie and watch it again.
