This is my impact Highlander. When I say impact I reference the game play that allows you to take snap shots, dealing massive amounts of damage in one quick hit. This used to be the recipe that made the pop tart pie, but is also good for massive amounts of torso twisting or any other use of cover. #1 Deals out 40 points of pin point damage at an ideal range of 100-300 meters of so with the PPC+AC/20. Fantastic as a mid range tier damage dealer. #2 Deals out 40 points of close up damage at ranges
I would be tempted to put AMS on this 'mech, but I think it's damn-near perfect as-is. My only real concern is that second to of SRM ammo, but it's probably sufficiently crit-padded sitting next to those double heatsinks. The XL 300 is the right engine, since there's no point in staying alive after losing the right torso.
It should be fairly known by now that I was huge fan of the 733C since the HGNs' introduction and been min-/maxing this particular build since then. It was just a matter of time until someone else would find and reveal this particular build. This is a highly competetive build, and there's no reason not to use a STD for such a build. Essentially you can use your whole left side as a shield when mounting a STD. You obviously have to put a little bit of work into not loosing that precious right torso too early... The cost of this? Your SRM4 and the CBills for Endo. That 1 JJ is sufficient for poptarting, but I usually prefer to use two of them in the HGNs. This comes at the cost of some cooling efficiency, though, but considering the SRM6 is just a small backup and won't be fired that often, this shouldn't be a problem at all (turning off the SRM6 in Smurfy's weaponlab lifts the cooling efficiency to 37% without skills). One small, but very effective modification would be to mount the SRM6 in the left arm. This makes hitting circling lights easier.
You also pay a cost in cooling. You have two less DHS in your first build, and four less in your second build. I rarely die from a side torso kill, but do appreciate the added security of the standard engine. When I designed this though cooling was a prime point in the build, thus no endo as you need the space for the DHS. With that being the case you need to free weight somewhere so that only leaves the engine. Not saying your builds are bad, but that was the reasoning behind the XL for me.
I prefer this variation. I've been running this for a long time now and find it most effective at short/mid ranges. The XL engine doesn't hurt it that much.
Oh lord please no... Please no XL's in highlanders, I can't tell you enough how many highlanders I have killed in my own 733C setup (which uses a standard engine) just by blowing of their side torso with two or three alphas. There is no need for those extra SRM's and if you want them that badly, then switch to large lasers. Just yesterday I killed a heavy metal who could have turned the tide of the match, as I was badly damaged, but didn't because he had an XL and went down quickly. Seriously, no XL's in assaults should be the rule of thumb, except for maybe victors, and that's a big maybe.
Everyone is aware of the current meta of the double PPC and AC/20 on the standard 300 build. This is an old build, and offers an alternative to the cookie cutter build. I personally have run an XL in Highlander, it is possible and able to being effective. Even with that I still do prefer the standard engine. So I agree somewhat with your opinion, I do not agree with your elitist regard to having it.
Well it's my opinion, so you don't have to agree with it at all. The only fact that I stated is that XL is significantly more vulnerable than standard engines, which is obviously true. I never put my opinion out there for you to agree with it, but for you and other people to consider it. And yes it's elitist and I don't care lol
Well being this isn't the place to debate the use of an XL build or not I'll just thank you for your in depth and educated opinion and the use of the rating system and move on.
