    I did this awhile ago when Locusts came out for Cbills. Yes Leer0y Jenkins is my second main account lol. Did 812 damage with a Locust 3m with 5 Medium lasers. I think I won this challenge!!! lol. Would be amazing to see someone do 1000+ damage in a little locust. haha

    I havent played my locust in a very very long time man. Many months lol. I been on my first account "B Sho" and messing with Jager mechs recently lol.

    Thank you sir. I will be waiting for someone to beat my damage in a locust ;)

    If a Locust is capable of a maximum of 2.97 DPS (sustained), then over 15 minutes the maximum damage would be 2673.

    My round was 12 minutes long, so.. assuming that the 2.97 number makes sense, which it may not, because I'm too lazy to check right now.. that gives a theoretical maximum of 2138.4 damage.

    Since I got 805 out of 2138.4 that means it's only 37.6% of the damage the mech could have done.

    Massive flaws in logic aside, this seems like an interesting way to grade performance in a max damage competition.

    I've beaten the 700 damage mark in 2 runs in my favorite Locust setup. That's without airstrikes and artillery.

    According to LSML the setup I've used can dish out 3.2 dps sustained on Alpine Peaks and 2.7 dps on Forest Colony Snow.
    Both lasted roughly 10 minutes, or 600 seconds, which means 1920 and 1620 theoretical max damage.
    I did 726 and 761 damage respectively, which seems pretty decent.
    Those numbers amount to 37.8% and 46.9% of the maximum damage I could have done.

    Taking into account the constant need to move to avoid being obliterated by heavier(i.e. all other) mechs, it looks like 50% is already pretty damn hard to do, which means it'd almost take a full 15 minute match on most maps to get to the magic 1k damage without using artillery or air strikes.

    All in all I'm pretty damn happy with my performance, but I'm still aiming for that 1k mark.

    Warning: Wall of text incoming.

    I've tried a couple of fits on the Locust 1V and 3M. Due to the unreliability of SRM hit detection and high weight per ton of ammo or weight per damage ratio of lrms and srms I wont look at the 3S, but I reckon it'll perform less well than the other two

    It seems like the 3M can do around 3.9 sustained dps max with an XL 190, 6 double heat sinks and 4 small lasers and a tag, but it sacrifices a lot of range and the ams in comparison to my medium laser setup.

    You could drop the ams and tag on the medium laser setup and cram in 2 more double heat sinks for a solid 3.0 sustained dps if you want to go all out on dps, or keep the tag for one less dhs and still have 2.9 dps.

    The 1V can put out a lot more. With 4 MGs and a medium laser in addition to 4 normal heat sinks it can dish out up to 5.3 sustained dps, but only at up to 40 meters, which isnt exactly a lot of range. It drops to 5.0 at 120m, 3.9 at 150m and below 3.0 after 175m.

    In the 1V you have to have the crosshairs on your opponent at all times in order to do damage, which means it's probably not as survivable as the 3M sporting medium lasers. Add to that the limited ammo supply of the 1V and you get a lot less real dps. The 3M can do shoot and scoot attacks fairly easily and deals all it's damage at up to 270m and in 20 damage bursts lasting a second each. It's almost like having an ac20 mounted.

    On a normal 10 minute match that'll amount to 2340 damage on the 4 small laser 3M, 1800 damage on the medium laser 3M and 1560 damage on the medium laser 3M including a tag and ams. Calculating the 1Vs damage is a bit different, thanks to its limited ammo. It has 3 tons of MG ammo which does 600 damage total, plus 10 minutes of constant laser fire which is another 780 damage, which means the total combined damage of the 1V is at 1380.

    Another factor is the kind of map you're on. The 1V almost never struggles with heat, which means it'll do 5.3 dps on all maps, only dipping below 5.0 dps on Terra Therma. The 3M setups are naturally gimped on hot maps, but are fairly easy to manage on cold ones, thus increasing their sustained dps by a bit, at least when using medium lasers. At most it'll add 0.6 dps, at worst it'll reduce the dps by 0.8 dps when compared to a neutral heat setting. Oddly enough the medium laser setups suffer less from the increased heat than small lasers and profit more from a cold environment.

    TLDR: I'm still pretty sure that the medium laser version I'm using, or the medium laser version without the ams is the best pick when going for the 1k mark thanks to its good range, pinpoint precision, high alpha damage, no ammo requirement and additional xp and money thanks to the tag. If you really struggle with the 3Ms heat you could still use one of those heatsink module thingies to get a tiny bit more damage out of your mech.

    Now I just need a hero Locust with jumpjets, lasers and MGs. Something like a mix between the 3M and 1V. 1B 1E in each arm and 1E in the center torso, 1 ams.

    A) they are more subtle and stealthy than MLas. (both visually and the sound)
    B) they are better pin-point weapons because of the quick discharged duration.
    C) SPLas have a lower alpha heat generation (4.36 heat/s vs 5.00 heat/s)

    Both add to the survivability of the mech, although the reduced range takes some of that survivability away, but that depends on your piloting skill and the environment. You can never let your opponent draw you into an open area unless he is alone and you can out maneuver him completely.

    Just some things to consider

    I know I didn't beat Solahma's high damage but I was really happy with this. No consumables, 5 ML, constantly on the edge of shutdown.

    It could has been a victory, but 3 Dires packing close and roflstomping focused fire is hard to beat. Like 2/3 of the team was dead in 2 minutes, then was when this man found himself alone. With just 16 missiles left, he decided to power down and survive the battle. He deserved.

    It's a rare day that I dish out that much damage in any 'mech, much less a Locust. I had to sell mine off because I did so poorly in them.
