FYI, this is not a thread to suggest PGI make Trials better, it is a discussion thread on how we as players can improve them w/o changing them too far from their standard loadouts.

    -------

So, I have played with the Trial CN9-D and earned some exp on it, which I am glad they do that now.
In the matches I played I managed to do a little bit of support with the LRMs, then use those medium lasers and the LB10X to cause some hurt in close combat.

The Trial isn't very heat efficient, however, and at first I was a bit concerned. I threw the stock build into the smurfy builder and found it had a 26% cooling efficiency, which is... dayum. Then I realized it was running singles, so, I upgraded to DHS. With DHS the HE went from 1.05 to 1.24, which is a fat climb for something running base 10 on heat sinks. Smurfy shows this was a climb from 26% to 51%, an all around improvement.

Now when I run this 'mech with its stock loadout, I will run cooler than all those others who are running Trials. Overall this was an interesting discovery for me, that it would just take such a simple change to make the 'mech so much better.

Has anybody else noticed a simple change like this greatly improving the performance of other stock loadouts?

I imagine that simply switching to DHS on some trials would do this. I'm one of the few(I think) who actually liked the trial mechs as they were. I found that starting out in them and running them for an extended period of time, that when I upgraded a purchased mech of that variety I could do much better with only simple changes like that. Running the stock trials makes an upgraded mech seem super bad a** compared to the trial and I could then squeeze that much more performance out of it. Many of the stock builds are fine just the way they are, and drastically better with such simple upgrades as DHS, or endo steel and adding HS to fill the extra tonnage.
