Is matchmaking turning you off from the game?

    Verbs making great points I won't speak for him but I do not think for a second he is trying to bad mouth any of us. He is very similar to me, wins mean more than personal stats....WHICH IS WHY IM PISSED ABOUT MM hehehe :)

    First of, I will never pretend to understand exactly how PGI's ELO works. Never. :) However, I am actually happy with the new MM system. Yes, drops do take longer to setup. However, in my mechs that I have played a few hundred matches or more in, I really do feel a much better sense of teamwork, even in PUGs. This obviously varies match-to-match, but, I really feel they did a wonderful job with matchmaking.

    The roflstomps will always be there. Even with two teams of great solo pilots. It, as many have said, comes down to a group mentality, communication and teamwork. I have had plenty of games where my damage was low, but, I had 4-6 kills ONLY because my lancemates focused their fired and I was just in the right place at the right time. I have no doubt they are better pilots that I am, however, my score was higher because of them.

    What I am seeing is drastically varied opinions on the new MM. I can't help but wonder if the fact I see very little of the things Cap talks about because my ELO is much lower than his and im stuck with the muppets, which is exactly my point. Higher ELO gets matched with better players its a fun experience...us with lower get stuck with morons and its a horrible experience. I guess the only chance is to get my ELO up but since I get so frustrated playing with clowns I don't know if I will play long enough to get the experience needed...lol double edged sword or what.

    For all your knowledgeable members, is ELO grouped for individual mech Chassis or for weight class? (eg. mediums vs assaults)

    From my understanding, if I buy a brand new mech, my ELO is reset for those drops until I can grind it up along with the mech's skill tree... If that is the case, than each new mech I buy, I would be running the same drops as Ian is talking about... I'm not certain though. As I said, I will never claim to understand their ELO system. :rofl:

    If you are having more trouble with the Matchmaking, try to rally your team. Become the leader. Communicate your position and your plan, ask for other's position/plan/input. Get some teamwork going and try to best the system! :D

    @IanSane : dude dont put yourself down like that, plus maybe join the mechspec channel in the ngng teamspeak and try dropping in a group........ A lot of what you are talking about is a consequence of being in a pug, and not the quality of the pilots...

    Reds:

    Assaults: 3 (285Tonnes)
    Heavies: 5 (310Tonnes)
    Mediums: 2 (100Tonnes)
    Lights: 2 (70Tonnes)
    765 Tonnes


    Blue:
    Assaults: 0 (0Tonnes)
    Heavies: 6 (400Tonnes)
    Mediums: 3 (140Tonnes)
    Lights: 3 (85Tonnes)
    625 Tonnes
    Reds:

    To put that into perspective that 140 Ton difference is the equivalent of 10 AC20s on the other team in terms of firepower.
    Working as intended.

    Just had a VERY frustrating match....


    Red Team:
    825 Tons

    5 assaults (4 atlas, viktor)
    3 Heavies
    3 Mediums
    1 Light

    Blue Team:
    490 Tons

    0 Assaults
    2 Heavies
    3 Mediums
    7 Lights

    Yep, that's a 335 ton difference..... or the equivalent of twenty four AC20s, or 335 medium lasers worth of firepower.... or to put it another way in order to even out the teams we would have had to have an extra 5 heavies at 60+ tons each for a total of 17 mechs on our team to match their tonnage.... This shidt is borked

    Matchmaker sucks really hard at the moment. Been playing with some teammates for 3 hours now and there wasn't even one close match. Literally all games where extremly loopsided, including grossly mismatching weight of the mechs included.

    The match would have been weight balanced if we traded Alpha lances, but MM took it in another direction. It was funny, really, members on both teams couldn't help but laugh at what was one of the heaviest PUG drops I've ever seen.

    And I thought the match I was just in was bad, we only had 6 atlas DD and 2 Jager DD with a total of 7 assaults, 3 heavies and 2 lights lol

    Not a PUG. That had to be an intentional 12-man group. At the very least, 4-mans sink dropping. MechSpecs Mayhem nights on NGNG's TS3 server has done the opposite a few times with 12 Jenners. But, I cannot believe the matchmaker would form that group. That had to be a premade, several of them are on very skilled teams.

    I see members from Steel Jaguar and Expendables/Reddit Arena at the least. I wouldn't be surprised if you accidentally stumbled onto an Arena that was supposed to sink-drop with another 12-man of assaults and they didn't queue up.

    I'm not exactly what the point you're trying to make is, but I meant 'pug' in that it wasn't 12-man que, just 1-4 man Assault. I agree, some lances were likely groups.

    Matchmaking is not the issue to me... Weight is. I've played several rounds recently with a team that is either A) all assaults; or B) all lights. Either way, not a fun rounds. We've done matches like that with MechSpecs Mayhem nights, but, if it is a 12-man group, it should only be able to match against other 12-mans. Without VOIP coordination, those weight differences kill a match...

    we've had weight imbalances for a while. I'm more frustrated in that it takes over a minute to even get a match from launch and it's STILL not any better as far as tonnage drops OR more close end-game scores. Wasn't that the reason pgi gave for the longer wait times - a tighter elo grouping?

    The best we had was a year ago when it the numbers matched at the mech class level (I think I remember that being the case, right?). And that ready button...

    C-bill drop/longer launch time, longer ready time... people are going to start buying non-hero mechs with MC pretty soon. So, working as intended.
