I hate using chainfire on the AC5s with a passionate fury. There is no logical reason behind it. That said, it is a very useful tool on laserboats and anything else that has a tendency to build up a lot of heat (missileboats!!) Chainfire is good for saving heat, and the tradeoff is obviously the damage output (heat = damage sent downrange). Longer burn times on lasers, less burst damage on ballistics, more missiles taken out by AMS as they take longer to all reach their target. AC5s barely have heat to speak of anyway and even with standard heat sinks you would have more than enough dissipation. Building up less heat should not be necessary. I know I recommended getting DHS anyway, because there is no downside to it and any build that does not use merely AC5s will need it, and AC5 builds will benefit from it as well. The only benefit to chainfiring is that the enemy experiences screenshake more often, but besides that it also draws more attention to you. That's at the expense of your accurate shots and short-burst damage output as well, so in the end it's hardly worth it. In typical situations you only poke out from cover ever so little before the LRMs start raining down. If you can fire for 1.5 seconds and then have to retreat, you'll have done 50% more damage with groupfiring AC5s, as you'll put out 6 bullets instead of 4. Going by the original Quad build from this thread, 8 bullets instead of 4!!! Because you're hiding most of the time, then you have plenty of time to cooldown. tl;dr Stop spreading the lies of chainfiring AC5s! It's bad! :O:O:O
