This build is based on Kriegerfaust's great Sturmgewehr build for the DD, but uses additional input given by various players using it and variants of it including a variant based on the JM6-S. The original Sturmgewehr is still a very good build. However, I felt something was missing when in close combat, when the MGs are unleashing their stream of terror. Since ERLL were also buffed by lowering their heat recently I decided to give them a try in here. The result? Great! The ERLL are shining in this particular build because they allow for long range punch as well. They are especially nice when used in conjunction with the MGs because of not having a minimum range like the PPCs (very important!) and are better suited for damaging moving targets at close range. And finally the ERLL allow removing DHS while retaining the good heat efficiency of the original build. In my view these changes are benefitting the build in multiple ways. In comparison to Kriegerfaust's original build the weight saved by replacing the PPCs and removing DHS can be used for - additional ammo (both Gauss and MGs), - additional armor, - AMS and ammo and - a bigger engine, resulting in a very well-rounded and protected killer machine. The final build was tested by several teammates of mine (since I sold my DD long ago, but am considering re-buying it because of this build), who all attested to it's efficiency. One teammate even chose to drop with it in dedicated duel drops and he never lost a single game with it until now.
I'll have to give this a try once i buy my DD. Already have an extra XL280 lying around from my CTF3D.
had the same idea in the origininal post (but with a 300xl) http://www.mechspecs.com/forum/index.php?topic=2763.msg19058#msg19058
I love this build. If i had the XL280, I might run it identically. But being that, at the moment, I only have an XL300 - I have the exact same build but with only 381 armor.
I saw this build in action last night while spectating. Looks really fun! I'm going to give it a shot tonight
