So, I got tired of scrolling through here and seeing a whole bunch of Jagers with XLs.. So I figured Id toss this old girl into the pool. Pretty effective, but mostly a support mech.
I've been messing around with something similar to yours. Call it the "Jagerjack" since it's essentially a jumbo sized Blackjack. A couple questions came up in my head regarding these two layouts: 1. Is it better to have a faster engine to be able to use the MGs more effectively, or is it better to have a slower engine and use MPLs instead of MLs to maximize the DPS of the two energy hardpoints? The MPLs have greater range than the MGs do. 2. Is it better to use standard MLs in the energy hardpoints, remove the extra heat sinks, and use dual AC/5s instead of the AC/2s? Since you won't have to remain exposed to enemy fire as much, this could be more survivable than both of these loadouts. Some testing might be in order for these.
Dual AC5 has less DPS but also much lower HPS, which might be nice if your heat management is poor or if you drop in Terra Therma. I strongly disagree with the build reasoning in itself though. Jagers are weapon platforms. The whole point of their giant hitboxes and amount of high hardpoints is to mount a scary amount of weapons like a glass cannon support/sniper build. Trying to mount a STD engine for CQC severely gimps its usability. You have little spare tonnage for equipment as we can see by the fact you're running a BlackJack loadout, but you have no jumpjets and are larger. This makes you strangely more fragile than said blackjack. If you want a real brawler mech, you should get a nice cataphract which has tonnage to equip a STD engine, good damage rolling hitboxes and hardpoints which are very decent for brawling on the more maneuverable arms. A Jager SHOULD run XL to mount a decently scary ballistics loudout that dwarfs even that of some assaults. Put major armor in the front because of the stupid hitboxes and you're going to be very effective if you play smart.
Well, I have this little problem about being told I SHOULD do things I tend to not listen. I figured I'd see if it were possible. Perhaps a Jager with more energy hardpoints..
JM6-S, firebrand And regarding being more effective you should. Regarding having fun, do what you like My 2LPL 3ML hunchback 4J or 2LL 6 ML hunchback are in no way optimal, but still very fun. However, at a min/max forum i think it's worth mentioning for people who prefer to be the most effective on the battlefield.
