It wasn't mine, but had a heartbreaker tonight. We were up 11-6 on Frozen City...I died from a misstep after taking down 2, so I was watching what I thought would be the easy end. Boy was I mistaken.

Their last mech was a Dire Wolf...don't know his loadout, since the game ate my screenshot for some reason, but it was a doozy. However, my team foolishly got overconfident, as they approached him one-by-one...from the frigging FRONT. We watched, screaming, as mech after mech ran up, stared him down, and ate everything he could dish out. They were chipping him away, but it just didn't matter, he was chipping a hell of a lot harder. One, two, three, all the way to number six, he tore through every last member of my team in about 1:30. Final score, 11-12, they win.

    Sad, sad face.

The very last match to contribute to my "Worthy Adversaries II" tournament score and bumped me up from 8th, to 6th place. Last 4 mechs were a Storm Crow, Timber Wolf, Raven, and Dire Wolf. I was the last mech. I walked around the corner where my teammate had just died, all but the Dire Wolf were there and heavily damaged. I shot one burst into each of them and they died. I thought the Timber Wolf was the last mech, so I stood there for maybe 5 seconds and typed "wow..." because they all went down so quickly, I thought the match was over. It was at that time that I noticed it was 11 vs. 11. I panic and begin torso twisting just as a Dire Wolf with no open components begins charging at me. I get a couple good shots in before my arms and torso get blown off. I'm now left with 2 cUAC5s. I back off an feint down a ramp, but then double back and get the drop on him. He realized I had a clean shot so he torso twist 90 deg. I aimed for the tip of his nose landing the final volley of UAC5 into his CT to win the match, only 3 shots of ammo remaining. Heart pounding. Happy to be done with the bloody tournament!

Just had a great one...I wasn't the last one alive, but damn it, I was spunky!

River City, the match started out the same way as always: we circled right. Our assaults got caught in the worst spawn, so we rolled back to defend them. I was running my Summoner outfit with some ERMLs and some LRMs, and began chipping away at the enemy team, one after another. Things were pretty even as the match proceeded, and we were losing the same people they were, so things weren't that bad...then the match took a turn for the worse. A teammate back shot me with 2x Gauss, critting my LT; I managed to take a nasty shot from the front from a DWF moments later that burned through my front armor and finished off the LT, costing me my lasers. However, just before I lost them, I fired both lasers and managed to kill off a Cicada. The DWF followed up two more volleys, one of which killed a teammate, and the second of which stripped the last of my weapons. Well shit.

We're losing 7-5, and I have nothing left to fire, so I take cover, and pop out a message to the team that I'm going to meatshield for them. I figure that my armor is already torn up a bit, so I won't last very long. That said, I run out of cover and start generally being a pest. I'm running literal circles around two Stormcrows, and generally just being a pain in the ass. One of the SCRs starts chasing after me, and he had the same build my Summoner was running: SRM30. I figured I was dead, so I started screwing around, using my JJs to kick away his armor a little bit. Then I realize that the other SCR is ignoring me, so I start running behind him. SRM-SCR isn't very good: he's alpha firing every time, and overheating...but his aim is also horrible. Within four separate alphas, he's done a small amount of damage to me...and teamkilled the other SCR. :D

I start training him around the map...I run straight into the DWF that stripped me earlier, and notice...he has no weapons left! He's also cored CT...so I run straight at him, noticing my pet Stormcrow has powered back up behind me. I figure, "why not, it worked once" and charge the DWF...JJ up, come down...and kill him with a mechkick to the CT. Fucking. Score. I take a nasty hit in the back as about half of the SCRs SRMs actually make contact for once, but keep running. While this happens, I've lost a teammate, but the remaining guys killed one as well, the score is now 8-7, so I go running around buildings to break contact, and find an enemy Vindicator. I hit my JJs and jump over him, come down...and hear explosions behind me. The SCR just TK'd his second person trying to get me, and his team is screaming at him over All Chat. 8-8 now. Turn another corner, and run into a BLR, hit my JJs again, and tear off an arm (two mechkicks in one match!? I AM AMAZING!!!), and hear more explosions. The dumbass SCR is STILL shooting at me, and hitting his teammates in the process! I see another message pop up...this time, it's a suicide, the SCR has overheated for the last time. Now I have a new problem; the Battlemaster appears to dislike what I just did, and he turns and chases after me. I figure that I'm finally doomed, and just try to get around a corner to train him to my team, but they beat me to it: the last teammates drive around the corner at his back, and unload on him. Now it's 10-8, our lead!

The last two mechs charge us all; my teammates are all under 60% health, so they will go down fast. Or they would if the silly bastards weren't shooting at me instead. ;) They try to focus fire and knock out one of my legs, and bring every other component down to orange and red crit. I'm doomed...but my broken teammates finish off the last of them. We win 12-8, thanks to one Stormcrow killing two teammates and himself trying to get me.

I am Meatshield. Call me Daddy.

I'm testing my new Jager Firebrand, running and XL280, 2PPCs and 2AC5s, back in time ! it was so long I didn't run a setup like this.

The game starts with a C3 push from the red team but we have many LRMs and Snipers so they can't really pull it off and it's 1-2 for them.
Then a big brawl starts in the buildings near the plane and I'm sniping from 500 meters and I'm able to get 2 kills plus good damage as this is the ideal situation for this mech. This went on for a bit and It's 9-9 after the brawl is over, I have a yellow side torso, and all the back armor is open, yellow.

The CTF in my lance, the SCR and other FB, plus me, are still alive, but the FB is killed, he was far, so the IM tells me "you go left I got right!", we were near hill to the right of the plane. I don't know why he wanted to split but I just didn't want to type and get killed or make up another plan so I just did. I push and find a SHD, almost cored, and kill him in 2 alpha and it's 10-10, then the IM charges their WHK, he gets killed but he removes one torso, and the other is yellow, and I kill him with an alpha in the ST.

Then I get 2 Mlas in the back but manage to survive, it was an LRM 40 SCR with 2 mediums, but his arm was orange, and 1 alpha was enough to remove it, now he has some LRMs but looks like it was his last volley and I survive.

I can't hit him with ACs while he manages to take space, I think this would be a real shame is he gets to draw, but I can see him from 300meters for a clear shot (only CT and ST left, both orange), luckily I don't miss him and we win.

Not last man standing, but two very close conquest games I played recently:

The second was especially stressful because our only non-legged mech left a point for no reason, instead of turning it blue (which would have give us "comfortable" victory).

This was played over the weekend (I.E. before the quirks).

My team decided to fight in the water of Forest Colony... which I hate. They got eliminated, leaving me with 4 enemies; a Raven, a Banshee, a Thunderbolt and an Atlas.
I ran back to the base, separating their 3L and leading him to start taking damage from the turrets. He seemed terribly confused by them, so I conducted strafing runs on his legs, taking him down quickly. Next the Thunderbolt walked up, whom I had already been working on, so I performed an XL check on his left torso and lucked out.
I noticed an Atlas behind him, but knew his main weapons (LRMs) were out of ammo, so I ignored him. Crested the hill next to the base and saw a Banshee right in the middle... facing the other way. He had no front or rear armor. He managed to turn and look at me before he died. I turned my attention to the Atlas, stripping his armor and making a general mockery of his 2 medium lasers.
It was fun. A good game overall.

What my health was like as the game ended:

Always great to see a Spider tear it up and run with a victory ;) To think though, if that Atlas has only brought a decent build, he could've saved it for his team...

Sadly no screenshot as didn't think to take one for the thread as the stats weren't that good. Its the competition so weight restrictions etc apply.

I'll skip most of the match to the end but we're on the Mining Colony and its unusual in that its actually a really good battle where losses are being traded and both sides are playing well. Reacting to each others tactics, staying in groups of layered firepower etc etc. It looks like we have the edge until a mad minute near the end when we go from 6 vs 6 to 2 vs 3. My armour is moderately good except the CT which is cherry red. My companion is in a stalker large laser boat that looks so beat up its scary... with a twin cherry red CT coincidentally.

    I haven't mentioned my mech have I.... ;)

A mighty quad MPL Ice Ferret with only half the basics done..... we're fucked.

Anyway we're typing away madly as in different groups and others in the company are adding information. Its none of the usual bs for it coming down to this or you can do it. Its actual information like the surviving mechs we haven't killed. Its grim - a dakka Direwolf, LPL/ERML Timberwolf and a Stormcrow streak boat. Its not all in their favour though as the stormcrow is decently damaged and the DWF has a dark orange to red CT (we weren't sure which).

Stalker makes a good call and we hunker down in the central raised area with his seismic running as they'd just finished the rest of our team on one edge. That tells us their likely direction of approach though so at least we can mostly stay in cover. We presume they know where we are as most players are still in game watching from the lack of disconnections and are sadly right.

    They get tricksie....

We totally miss the Stormcrow streak boat hugging cover to hit the rear while the Timberwolf and Direwolf menace the front.

    Seismic saves us.

We're perched on the rear cover by the wall and he literally runs past but almost out of view hugging the wall. In a fast typing example from legend the stalker calls it and turns around to bring his firepower to bear. I drop off the wall to try to distract the SCR while he kills him from above.......

I drop right behind him as he's slightly slowed to peep around the corner and presumably to talk on comms as the TBR and him are in the same unit.

Drop my first volley of quad MPL into his back but he's showing no effect. Reacts to the Stalker above him who twists away out of sight. Never even notices me or discounts me! Either way I land a second volley into his back while expecting any second to just explode in a crossfire of streaks and his friends weapons. He's turned and my heat is redlining as the unbasiced Ice Ferret has minimal capacity to soak heat. Beat him to the punch and fired all the firepower my heat could stand without shutdown - the 2 MPL on my primary trigger. Down he goes just as the Stalker types "incoming front". My heart had barely had time to recover!

I circle up around the corner and am cresting the ramp with the stalker next to me when the Timberwolf crests the other ramp. Its a Mexican stand off out of the movies, the gunslingers facing each other. The air lights up. Everyone lands on each other with everything. Stalker explodes but has done heavy damage and my 4 MPL have carved into the Timberwolf's centre torso as well. I'm desperately moving to the left trying to find cover as I fire my medium pulses into him before his LPL/ERML cycle. I'm waiting for the return fire and we don't even notice at first that my fast cycling quad have taken out the last of his CT killing him for a few seconds..... call it stress because boy was my adrenaline running fast!!!!!

So its me against a UAC5/ERML dakka DWF with my MPL Ice Ferret..... ok... we can do this!

Look its kiddology! He's slow right and I'm... 130KPH but have to cross his entire optimal to get to mine.... oops

Its moments like this you wish a mech was doubled as this Ice Ferret isn't exactly agile or a small target either but compared to the slowest mech in game I'm not bad.

Except I don't have the acceleration/deceleration upgrades so peeking is going to be hard. Sadly that shows plus I quickly find he has seismic making flanking versus an intelligent opponent a lot harder. I have to go hunt him as no visual and he sensibly backs off to a position with really good firing lines knowing I have no JJ so can only approach him from 2 corridors.

I luck in and actually manage to blunder out of cover see him and fire, then try to get back into cover as he finishes turning alerted by his seismic. Moment of anguish as he totally soaks my quad MPL with no visible effect but I'm twisting away and manage to get back into cover with moderate damage to my left arm. Even grazing that damage is insane.

What its shown and peoples comments confirm is grim. His only weak point is his CT so I'll have to get directly into his firing line to go for it... and we all know the first rule of what NOT to do against a Dire wolf right? ;)

He's sensibly relocating as I try to get angles on him - playing everything by the book. Good mix of aggression and defence. Why couldn't I get a noob DWF pilot. :(

I'm trying to keep my range between 251 and 370 aka outside seismic but inside my optimal.

Nothing significant damage wise on either side and its almost like a chess game of pieces moving around trying to maneuver the other side into a trap. In fact I manage to totally panic miss him at one point as he's relocating slightly and I only had a minute second to snatch a shot. But luck comes into play and he doesn't even notice it as its literally sailed right behind him missing him by the closest margin but outside his line of sight. I have to hesitate for heat for a second or two before moving after him. Or so I think....

But he's made a tragic mistake with what looked like a great defensive ambush position. He had seen my fire and dropped down into a corner on the level below so he had a tall building to his left, rear and right.... and he's waiting for me. Worse I'll unashamedly admit I was intendng to drop off the side and would have been literally in front of all his dakka/lasers.

I'm moving in fast to obliteration.

Wait whats that rounded area just fractionally visible over the straight edge of the wall... instinct takes over and I fire the quad medium pulses straight into his head/central torso as I fly over.

Mad comments from both sides as he collapses.

Turns out we did still have a massive audience ;)

There's a punch line though.... 4 kills, 3 assists, 0 spotting assists and 560-580ish damage. Yup just missed the 140 pts so my last stand heroics didn't even count as I killed too many people...

Alpine. I had 1 kill at the point my last ally dropped. A cataphract (cored by me earlier) got too close on a hill I was peeking from. He got clever to charge but didn't unlock his arms to aim down at me so I dropped him. Then finished a cored and legged timber wolf inside that minute. Finished another mech that I believe was a brawl medium at range. Dire+Warhawk was left and WH had lasers. Dire was dakka and the UAC kind. So I ran for a bit to see if they'd charge. Time was ticking out so I had to come to them and luckily they stayed behind the hill in the town as far in as they could. They were cored and those low arms aiming so high (probably blindly) at me as I peeked and finished them off.

Real exhilaration ride and proof that you can turn any battle around with luck and skill. They had enough LRM's, tag's and narc's to level a city. Nicely pincer moved us then tied us down with LRM's, PPC's and ERLL while they brought their heavier stuff into us out of view.

It started awfully with our spider scout suiciding into them and then they narc/lrm volleyed all three of our assaults one after another. In exchange our DDC killed one of their narcers. In response we desperately rotated away to our base and lost the Thunderbolt in our lance as their ambush lance opened up which had circled around. So there we are at 1-5 and someone already called it on comms as a lost cause. Luckily we're hardened to loss and started launched focused fire into each mech at our base and forced them to pull out of view.

At this point its put up or shut up moment as they hold all the advantages - they hold all the raised areas so we are pinned down, outnumber us 7 to 11 and their surviving units are much heavier. I'm calling kudos to our whole team as they were great. We did have one advantage - 5/7 of our team were in unit so on the one comms.

I'm essentially our eyes in my 2 x er ll (with TC1) Ice Ferret and am calling avenues of approach and location of every enemy mech I can see and we start trading losses with them in incredibly brutal fighting. The team manage to kill 6 but it costs us badly and we're down to just my Ice Ferret and PyckenZot's SCR. We're both badly hurt with either red CT's or damage otherwise spread all over. From memory they have a Direwolf, Stalker, Awesome, Kintaro and Timberwolf. We're still in a crossfire with 2 on raised canyon walls, the DWF behind and the Stalker/Awesome in the trench approaching base. I have to get range and so attack the DWF cutting away at its weaponry area's taking out its UAC/5 batteries before finishing it off. It costs me my CT to cherry red and orange on several area's but that gives me range and puts us in a stronger position as Pycken is under an overhand able to watch one side and I'm covering the other plus the trench in.

They push in on either height to get locks and I presume hold us in place for the slow assaults in the trench. We're just waiting though and have nothing else we can do except all out attack so their cautious sneaking move goes terribly wrong as I can see both moving up. We each take out the target who moves in on the height we're facing bringing it to 2-2 but we're smoking away and have very little armour left when the two assaults turn the corner. We drop everything we can into the awesome and it just comes apart as it we rip its arms and then LT out... XL!!!!!!!! I'm running hot but just manageable with care. Pycken is right hovering at shutdown level and all this time the Stalker has been lashing into me. Pycken deliberately volleys everything he has into the barely touched Stalker landing everything and explodes. I'm then left solo against the Stalker, rolling and spreading damage for dear life as I cut away at it while keeping my heat hovering right under shutdown, knowing that the slightest mistake and it would be game over.

As it was I walked away alive as the Stalker went down with its CT burnt though.

Enemy team logs off en masse without a word. We don't care on comms and are celebrating. :)

    Check the mech. ;)

Not much to say beyond it was a hard match. Lots of small fast paced battles and skirmishes with knife edge fights. Their defence and assault was underpinned by a WVR-6K with tripple LPL and 1 ERML. Anything that moved he nailed.

We were exchanging losses until it came down to 2 v 2 - our Banshee and my Mist Lynx vs their almost untouched Atlas and the WVR. The Banshee and I were separated and I was alternating blasting the Wolverine and Atlas. The WVR had taken heavy damage from me and circled out of sight so I pushed on the Atlas who sensibly dropped into a crater to avoid me. The Banshee had caught up to the fight by now and saw me shooting the Atlas so pushed on him.....

Right past the corner the WVR was hiding behind. Banshee gave it everything he could but with a triple LPL/erml beast behind him and the Atlas in front he melted in seconds.

Well I play a WVR-6K so know its killing range - get in it and I'm just dead in a Mist Lynx. I draw the WVR away as much as I can from the Atlas and start poptarting/working angles to shoot at him. Probably only hit at the range maybe 2 of 5 but take no fire back so all good. Then the dead DWF pilot taunts me - something about being a "whore" and that I'm just pulling them apart. Fatal as at that second I see both mechs deliberately pull together.

Paybacks a bitch as I hurl myself sideways in the air over a ridge, see a target and instinct fire at the Wolverine. Any damage before it can get back to its ERLL/LRM Atlas buddie....

    BOOM!

The DWF and I exchanged LOL's over his comment and my "response". Rule number 1 ... don't taunt in local as makes you look silly if it goes bad. ;)

So its me against the DWF. Both of us LR equipped so in I charge and instantly find he has almost no damage on him plus quite a large engine so can turn/shield well. His LRM's are useless at this range though.

Battle Royale ensues as I pit my not even basiced Mist Lynx against his maxed AS7-S. I have ECM to hide me luckily as he's giving it everything he's got. My main problem is his 2 ERLL as if I reveal myself for long at all I'm getting splashed by them and he can use them non stop. As a counter I have my single ER PPC but can only fire twice in a run by attack or I'll shut down. We're at seismic range so my poptarting is almost useless as he just lases me easily. You guessed it hit and run with me moving non stop and wearing him down.

Ultimately only 1 pt was had in that game and it was mine. ;)
