Played around with this yesterday for several times. There were lot of Locusts in the drops and they mostly were killed within the first 3-4 minutes. This build was not only the survivor-king beneath them(last man standing for more than one time), it was also able to deal some nasty tickles (around ~150-200 DMG). Fore some reason it was also capable to do some kills. I played it like this: 1. WpnGrp: SLas 2. WpnGrp: LRM5 chainfire 3. WpnGrp: LRM5 bulkfire In earlygame i did scout-jobs for spotting and lock-relaying to the team. Don´t chase too close and use terrain to not peek your little cockpit over the rocks too long. Terrain is your friend here, much more than in other mechs. Be somewhat pennywise with your LRM-ammo and DON´T FIRE on mechs with AMS, unless other LRMs are jerking their payload on it, too. Here and there, i fired a single salvo, just to make those spotters and peekaboos disappear and relocate because of the missile-warning. If its a capgame, go with the other Lights for the cap, but don´t be the first in line. I found it VERY effective in engaging Groups of other Lights when yourself are in a Lightpack. Just fall back and firesupport the dogfighters. This feared off several enemy-capping-packs and we got the flag without big losses. In midgame, show patience. Go on with capping and first and foremost : Stay alive. You´re not going to win the game here in brawls, so keep distance when possible. In citiy-oriented maps, you shine in peeking out of house-corners and stuff, so you have enough cover. Support with the LRMs on mechs, that are already engaged in fights and don´t have AMS in best case. In lategame, the enemys AMS-ammo is mostly fired. Keep distance and get rid of your ammo. Due to the nature of LRMs, the will mostly hit upper torsoes, heads and stuff. I got some nice kills on open Sidetorsos with XL in it. A volley is still 11 DMG and you have a high rate of fire. Input is highly appreciated, i had lots of fun with this underestimated little thing. I´d love to have another ton of ammo, but my german angst keeps me from stripping more armor. I will look for some screenshots when i´m, back home. Variant with MLas and less Armor:
I was already thinking about something similar, but haven't tried it ingame or in Smurfy's. I'd like to have a ML in there as well, but I think it would mean sacrificing too much armor or speed (when mounting an XL175 for example).
Yeah, i tinkered around trying to get a MLas in there, but you have to sacrifice 0,5t of armor (ouch) or downgrade the engine to XL180 (5,5t instead of 6t). With 0,5t less armor and replacing the SLas: I refuse downgrading the engine, because you will lose 8,9 kp/h when going from XL190>XL180. Losing 8,9 kp/h for getting 0,5t is a bloody bad deal imho
Ran this thing as a joke build just now. started the match by saying in team chat "Im in a LRM locust. Taking bets how long I last." only to end the match one of the last few mechs and winning by captures. This is a trolly build, but the LRMs and weak armor force you to play the locust smart. This build works as a harasser (nothing annoys the enemies more than having a LRM boat they cant engage) However, If a single light decides to take you on, you are screwed if you don't have support I would give this 3/5 from a purely technical standpoint, but it deserves 4/5 for the smile I get when I pilot it.
I'm going to try this build, it sounds like fun. I tried the 2x SRM4 build and somehow it doesn't work with my play style. I'll try and give feedback later
SRMS's are hard to aim, and their Desync is bad for hit registration. So LRM's can be fun, but Be careful at the end of game!
I tried it, and liked it! It's almost useless when the ammo runs out, but its more fun then the SRM counterpart. Approved
I took off a ton of LRM ammo to max out the armour and keep the medium laser. You need to be a bit more conservative with your LRM5s, but I find the trade-off worth it.
