Interesting, a tick for even numerical numbers to participate. Meaning, you can do tonnage offsets, match number of mechs with tonnage or challenge games.

This is very popular over here in Germany and lots of units as well as tournament organizers were looking forward to this feature.

For example: My unit has been doing coordinated best-of-7 drops each monday since more than half a year, usually including this set of rules:

    - mode: conquest
    - maximum weight: 750t
    - maximum of 3 ECMs
    - maximum of 3 air / artillery strikes

Another very popular mode are 3025-tech stock tournaments including a completely overhauled BV-System. These will profit as well as a failure in syncdropping using 3025 mechs usually means a quick and unfun game when facing a fleshed out 3050 team.

Before too many people get super excited... let us just make sure everyone read this correctly....

So, in other words, if you want all those little extra frills you are gonna pay for it.

If you have a premium booster you will be given more priority access to the Premium server queue? This essentially means "If you spend money you will be given more priority over other players who haven't spent money". It also says "If all of the players on your team spend money for a premium booster you will be given the highest priority over other teams".

If you don't spend money as a group leader you will not have access to premium options for your ready screen.

Mmmmmmm if they could monetize the air that we breath they would do it!

This looks like desperation in my eyes and sounds a lot like a subscription without actually calling it that.

Everything sounds great so far. Everything except the Premium requirement to have access to features... that is COMPLETE Bull**** IMO

I agree with everyone else. I like nearly everything they are doing, except the fact that they are monetizing nearly every part of the game and making it really hard to play it as a f2p game which it is supposed to be. I don't know if this is good news or bad news in all honesty because the sheer fact that everything that is anything requires a real money purchase is starting to give big tells about the money they have available. Either they are stripped of cash or greedy as all fucking hell. Neither of those are good signs.

Hey look, you can still play without paying. The game is still F2P (but if you want to play in any kind of organized league with restrictions someone is going to have to pay and if you want priority everyone is going to have to pay OR you can wait until the queue is almost empty, when our paying customers are in bed, and then we might let you in the queue).

Free to play (pay) is a money making machine. Everything they are doing is intentional, and meant to rake in cash. The "free to play" is meant to lure you in, try out the game, and get you hooked. Anything cool in the game is sold for real money. It's not really a new business model, and was their intention from the start if I remember correctly.
There are good and bad parts to the model of course.
As long as they are balancing correctly between dangling carrots, and improving content, the game stays current, and you have a lot of happy players that don't mind shelling out real cash for the carrots.
Bad thing is, if they don't balance correctly, you get a bunch of pissed off players that leave. the company loses its cash base, they close down shop and players that had a lot of real money invested in the game are left with nothing.
It will be interesting to see which version of the model PGI follows.

I feel like people are blowing this out of proportion. Yes, having legitimate Game Power increasers like the MC Coolshot, that non-paying users can't have access to, is BAD. That's why they changed those up, so that free-players could, with much grinding, gain access to the 9x9.

However, they're not charging for the ability to get into Multiplayer matches. They're not charging for better parts. They're not charging for exclusive access to specific maps. They're charging (and it's a Premium Membership, which plenty of people have and use anyways...) for the options to have a little more control over specific matchups- which is really only useful for instances where two well-organized teams are doing out-of-gameworld matches. People who are completely free-playing (like myself) can still join groups. They can still Lance or 12-man drop. They can still choose their game mode. They just can't do 'custom server' style matches.

I'm not saying that Pirhana can do no wrong, but I do think people should step back and look at what is actually being suggested, from the standpoint of both Freeplayers (who won't have Premium) and Dedicated players, who'll probably be the vast majority of people doing the sorts of community-driven, organized drops the Premium memberships are required for anyways.

Think about things before you villify them, if you will.

Always free to pay... that's the point of the business model.

    Who is villifing?
We are talking over the different aspects of what PGI is doing to the game that we all play, and what we like, and don't like about those things.
We all know that PGI has to make money. If there is no money, there is no game, no mechwarriors, no bad a$$ Cattie for the skidog to pilot.... I for one wouldn't like that.
But I and others have spent real money on the game... probably more than any other game I've played, and It's nice to actually have a place to come and talk about our opinions over the issues we see.
I suppose some people villify, but at least it's honest, and straight forward.

There are 4 types of Free to Play game in my experience.
Type 1 is the Pay to Win. If you don't spend money you're going to grind forever, and never succeed. This drives off the non-paying audience, causes word-of-mouth about the game to be poor, and generally leads to failure of the game.
Type 2 is the Bleed You Dry. You can play OK without spending money, and there are some things where the money seems worth it, but then every little thing takes a bit of cash. The devs nickle and dime the players into quitting. You don't need to spend cash like in a Pay to Win game, but you want the things spending money gives you. Players tend to resent this, as the things purchased for cash are not seen as worth the money.
Type 3 is the Pay for Cosmetics. In this type of game the only things that are exclusively for cash are purely cosmetic. They don't affect game balance, you can't buy a better for cash, etc. You might be able to get things more easily (no need to grind) but you can't get anything non-cosmetic that a non-paying customer can't get. The most successful games tend to be of this type (see League of Legends player numbers.)
Type 4 is the Free Open Source Software games. They're truly free. You can donate to the devs if you want to, but there's nothing for sale. Things like Battle for Wesnoth, Xonotic, Tremulous, OpenTTD, PlaneShift, etc.

MWO is a Type 2. That's not always bad, but it's getting worse. Some Type 2s limit the greed enough to seem reasonable. Some turn into Type 3s. PGI needs to keep the (apparent) greed down, or they risk driving away players and thereby reducing their revenue.
