http://mwomercs.com/news/2014/05/854-mwo-tournament-series-beta-first-engagement Plenty of you group players are active on mechspecs so I thought there would be some chatter by now on this topic. It will be cool to watch some of the matches, especially if NGNG does some of the birds-eye view stuff like they had in the glorious launch event.
I came looking for this thread last night after I saw the tournament announcement I'd love to join some fellow MechSpec'ers and put on a formidable team.
Limiting it to 32 teams which seems low in my opinion. I can't imagine how a pick-up team (even a mechspec one) would fare very well against the true groups that practice/play together/RHOD it.
With the 720 ton limit, I've been trying to think what the drop decks would be. You have to avg 60 tons per mech so maybe: 2 hgn, 3 3D, 4 shd, 3 3L/jen (715 tons) although i have zero idea what real teams run usually or if 720 tons is already a normal 'class' for organized play.
You could have 6-8 lights, rat packs, with a few assaults for LRM support. That would probably work. In a team environment, lights can move fast and tear apart enemy mechs when working together.
I think the most common 12-man drop-deck among competitive groups as of right now is: - 3x Highlander-733C/HM, (270 tons) - 3x Cataphract-3D, (210 tons) - 3x Shadowhawk-usually AC5-PPC poptarts, (165 tons) - 3x 35-ton light (usually Jenner-F, Ember, and/or Raven-3L), OR 3x Spider-5D. (90-105 tons) With the 720 ton limit, there will obviously have to be some changes to such a drop-deck, as the total weight --- even running Spiders instead of Jenners/Firestarters/Ravens --- adds up to 735 tons (750 with 3x 35-ton lights). What changes actually occur would obviously depend on the particular group in question; but I personally think, for the most part, teams will simply swap the trio of Highlanders out for three Victors, thus freeing up 30 tons, so that the rest of the group can remain untouched (even the lights could all stay at 35 tons). With 3 Victors, 3 Cataphracts, 3 Shadowhawks, and 3 Jenners, the total weight is precisely 720 tons. Of course, there would be no ECM in such a group. To remedy this, you might swap two of the Jenners for Spider-5Ds, and use the extra 10 tons to change one of the Victors to a Highlander. [hr] Of course, for the two 600 ton tiers, the drop-decks would need to be changed even more, and much more significantly. For those matches, I think you'd simply see alot more Medium 'Mechs, and very few, if any, Assaults or Heavies. In fact, (and this is mere conjecture on my part), this might be a very plausible setup for 600 tons: - 8x Shadowhawk, (440 tons) - 4x Cicada-3M (160 tons) As stated, this is mere theorizing on my part. But with 8 poptarts, and 4 ECM snipers with decent speed, I think it may be the best "meta" drop-deck for such limited weight.
Well, the standard comp deck is 3x HGN/VTR, 3x CTF-3D, 3x SHD, 3x RVN-3L/JR7 However, for 720T, go with this; 1x HGN 2x VTR 3x 3D 3x SHD 1x RVN-3L (Trade out a CDA-3M for full tonnage limit) 2x JR7-F/FS9-E SHAKE 'N BAKE! If sticking to the 3x3x3x3 rules; 3x VTR 3x 3D 3x SHD 3x 3L/JR7 But, that's only 705T. But, it sticks to the 3x4 guides.
If anybody is putting a team together and needs a pilot, i'm available. Pilot name is RjBass3 just like on here.
Yep. That's what comps have become. 3x HGN, 3x 3D, 3x SHD, 3x JR7/Ember with a rare RVN-3L thrown in...
Interestingly though our regiment has won their last 14 12 mans and don't run anywhere near that. Unfortunately ESO and Wildstar nailed our competitive side so getting serious withdrawal symptoms. Not that I can talk as I only just got back from Iceland for the Eve Online fanfest.
Rem, I was just referring to teams preemptively running the 3x3x3x3 in anticipation of the rule change.
Yeah I know. We've been running 3/3/3/3 since they announced it in pre-arranged and random as far more fun.
Ok I found a team. The Black Legion (A Davion team) is seeking pilots for the tournament. If any of you are looking for a team, even just to try it out, we need you. Send me a PM if interested.
Hmm sadly i'm away during 29-31.05. so well bad timing for me, elsewise i would be realy on the search for a teamXD Still wish all you mechspecers the best and hope next time PGI chooses a better timing. Btw i think the most awesome (but not effective) team composition for 600tons would 9xDRG and 3xLCT can't think of a more redicilous team to win it.
