So does anyone else use this with MWO? I have a requirement to be on TeamSpeak while playing MWO, and I did some reading up on Overwolf. Not a bad little addon, I must say. Being able to see who is coming and going, and who is talking, without having to ALT-TAB is very helpful. Not to mention, a built in web browser. Now I can sit in the mechbay and play, without having to tab back and forth.
Well I know they have a rep who keeps an eye on the MWO forums and helps with problems but I've not used overlays much.
Basically works to add a TS3 overlay into games so you can see who's talking. I have a G510 keyboard with a small LCD that shows TS3 info, plus a 2nd monitor as well...so I have no need for Overwolf
Yeah, I have the same G510 keyboard and the same G13 keypad, but I have computer stats (RAM and CPU usage) and the time on mine. I used to use the TS3 option on one of them, but if more than two people are talking, or if multiple people type in chat, the latest always overlaps previous. The Overwolf TS3 overlay lets me see them. I used to run with two monitors as well, but I would rather save all my graphics card's oomph for the game. Not to mention the danger of accidentally switching over to the secondary monitor during a heated battle, hitting the wrong key, woops... Eh, it works for me. Also, in-game web browser.
I have never accidently switched monitors; ever. It depends on what version of the game you are running and how you have the monitors set up. Also, graphics oomph? MWO is using a graphics engine several years old. The latest cards (680s, 780s and 980s) laugh at MWO and keep on chugging along. My 780 only drops in frame rates when PGI does something to fuck with the space time continuum; or release another untested patch.
My computer is as old as the graphics engine the game runs on. Watercooled and overclocked to the max. EDIT: Also, it doesn't matter how modern your computer is, MWO does not like ALT-Tab.
That, sadly, is true. I actually crash the client a lot when I am alt-tabbed out surfing but when I am palying I can easily see everything on my secondary monitor and never worry about switching between the two.
Doesn't TS already have an overlay? Personally I disabled it because it's ugly, but I'm pretty sure there's one (or I confuse with mumble). Try to switch to full-window (alt-enter) before alt-tabing, it solved 99% of crashes for me.
Ummh... ok never had an alt-tab crash but maybe I've been lucky. Reason I don't use overlays is a historical one. I primarily play Eve Online and a normal fleet just for our alliance is maybe 80-90... having that many names on screen is a nightmare. Ergo I started using an ap on the G19 to just show who was talking as ultimately thats all I care about.
Yeah, lag is partly the reason we lost Bob in Eve. First Titan built, first one lost. Computers have gotten better and so have the overlays, but 200 ships will still lag Eve. But Overwolf works decently enough in MWO.
