Running a bit last night with Don Zappo, I found a couple of UI 2.0 grumblies for me: - There is no way to ready outside of the social panel. Why must being social get in the way of playing this game! Bad joke aside, UI1.5, I could ready without having to bring up the social page. One more click than needed to ready up. - I was constantly trying to ready up while still in the configure screen, despite my 'Mech being saved. Never was a problem in UI 1.5 as saving the 'Mech took you back to a screen you could actually ready from. Click, click, click. Once the 'Mech has been Checked Out... I mean Saved, either take me to the main Configure screen and let me launch from there, or as long as the "Mech has changed" flag isn't set, allow me to ready from anywhere. And if the "Mech has changed" flag *is* set, instead of just a pop up that says, "You cannot ready in Configure..." give me a dialogue box that asks, "The BattleMech has had changes made to it, did you want to save your 'Mech and finalize any purchases?" and then once you do, it readies you up.
I actually like the visual improvements made to the UI... What I don't understand is why PGI felt the need to make it less usable than UI 1.5 Bugginess aside, there are just some stupid things they have done. Icons For weapons and equipment that make choosing an engine type a chore in squinting more than anything else. Infact, I don't think any of the needed info for mech customization is displayed in a way that is easy to see... find... whatever Navigating menu after menu just to do the most simple task (Not User Friendly at all) No way to see what Weapons, modules and Equipment that are equipped on a mech and in your inventory without pulling up each mech and wading through the menu system No save button... and no way to save more than one configuration per chassis with a visual representation telling you weather you have the needed equipment in stock.... I could go on, but that would be as pointless as this UI Some of the things I do like Full screen 1080p interface (though the option to customise.. scale things would be nice) & the option to have a windowed mode so I can be on mechspecs while waiting to drop. I like seeing the chassis while customizing it, but would rather have a more efficient Smurfy/MW4 style interface to configure, and the nice visual once saved Wish I could put more here, but I just can't Is it me or did we get more lag, and even lower framerates with this patch? Actually, I don't think I ever felt like this game was in beta. I've done some beta testing over the years and never had to pay for it... in a couple cases I was paid for my efforts. What we were given the option to do is more like pay for a preview version of the game, and have paid PGI butloads of cash to do their testing for them.... ingenious actually. To date, this is the most I have spent on any game, preview or otherwise... I would like to feel good about that... I just don't see how that is possible at this point.
Once again, it's pretty. I'm trying SO HARD to focus on that improvement. It looks beautiful! However, the more I look at it, the more I am down-heartened by it's complicated process. (not to mention game breaking bugs like the consumables and unenviable navigation issues) I'm trying so hard to appreciate what they've done, but, they are making it DAMN hard to do so. Chatt.
I'm another mixed feelings vote. Some things I dig and some suck. In the long run if it makes it easier for them to give us the other 1/2 of this game I'm for it. I'm just coming off my second break from the game and if things don't pick up I'm not sure if I have a third return in me.
My main problem with UI 2.0 is that I've gone from usually optimizing a mech in smurfy to always optimizing a mech in smurfy. It's just easier to translate a finished smurfy build into their component by component BS. Secondary problem, when you go to buy a new mech, the UI kindly checks the 'pay with MC' option for you.
I feel like, in some situations, they are showing more information than the previous UI. The problem is FINDING where that data is being communicated. It is baffling to me how difficult it is to SEE the information on a FULL SCREEN UI... Overly complicated in every way
