Okay second stab at making me a viable Orion since you guys ripped apart my idea for the brawler build, which by the way I didn't even bother testing since I wasn't going to spend the money on something nearly everyone despised.

Yes, I know its an XL300 engine. It is still enough to keep up with the majority of heavies out there in PUGs.

On paper its alpha seems relatively cool at 26 Heat and it has good heat efficiency. I know I will get digs for having the Gauss in the shoulder with an XL engine but everyone keeps saying the shoulders are pretty much safe at the moment so I figured It couldn't hurt to at least try it out if I put some padding in there.

Second version with more SRM ammo

3rd Version with SRM4 instead of SRM6, Maxed armor and slightly larger engine

Bottom line is I want to justify the expense for buying this mech by finding 1 build that I can perform half way decent in.

I was thinking about the same line during the day. Definitely looks good on paper and will give it a try this evening.

Hey Mr. fhfwolfy, good to see you still tweaking =)

I like this setup, I've had good success with a similar build, but I haven't gone all the way and tried two ERLLas, but the more I look at it, the more it probably makes sense. Good idea to have some sort of close range backup punch, I have tried having some MLas as close range backup weapons and they seem to do ok, but people tend to be a little more willing to back off of you when their cockpit gets rocked by a stream of SRMs, looks like a good idea.

I've found for my style, 30 Gauss ammo is about the right amount. I've only fired all 30 rounds in one match, generally they don't last long enough for me to use it all. Before the Gauss change, I probably would have gone with more, but with the charge up mechanic in, I actually find myself not wasting as much ammo when I have to pause and think about the shot, so 30 has worked out pretty well.

I would probably go with a mix of all 3 builds, lol. I like the better cooling of build 2, but I think 200 SRM ammo would be plenty, since it really isn't going to be a primary weapon most of the time. Also, I think perhaps the SRM 4s are enough, with max armor and the slightly bigger engine, 200 SRM ammo, and the extra heatsinks would be a really good balance.

Honestly, with the new HSR tweaks they've done, I can generally hit lights/fast meds pretty well with the large lasers now, so I think the SRM 4s as extra punch up close along with the ER Larges would be sufficient.

I know everyone gave you a bit of a hard time for the brawling setup, but if you haven't played the Protector yet, you'll understand why once you do play it. I have run a couple different long range builds now for 20ish games and it is working out MUCH better than the closer range builds did, at least for me.

Don't get too discouraged, it may not be a great brawler right now, but I have a feeling the CT hitbox will be tweaked like the Kintaro was, and then the Orions will be in a great spot. Even though it seems long range is the best fit for the Protector right now, I've had a couple very different long range setups work out just fine, it is a really versatile Mech chassis! I am not in love with the GIANT CT, but the Mech really is pretty fun and I LOVE the hardpoint layout, it is a really great setup for different styles.

Gave this one a 4, I think the Gauss + dual ER LLas is a great way to go.

Talk about shining a turd.....Just played this mech for the first time using a number of different builds. Bottom line...its crap. 7 matches before I got my first win (thanks matchmaker). As far as the 30% goes I dont know what the hell is up with this mech but I make exactly the same as I do in my Jager and Cats but have a third the fun doing it.
