Ok so, me and some friends from UMAD came up with this entirely random, totally crazy, insanely hilarious idea tonight:
What if an Atlas were to walk backward into the enemy team . . . with his torso-armor values weighted VERY heavily toward his rear? And I do mean HEAVILY! (4 across the front, rest maxed across the rear)

(DHS for crit-padding, not heat. ;))

The basic concept here is to present a seemingly easy-to-kill target, which in the end, turns out to be extremely difficult to take down. 'Cause honestly, who would ever ignore an Atlas's rear torso? You would never walk around him to shoot his front, especially if he's making it easy by keeping his back to you at all times! You would shoot that rear torso over and over, and would see it barely turn a light shade of orange. Then you'd probably rage about how this dude must be hacking, or that hit detection in the game is worse than it's ever been before. And all the while, the Atlas's friendlies will have followed after him, wreaking havoc on you and your distracted fellows.

Of course, we never actually tried it, because who would ever want to volunteer for such a role?! Still, you gotta admit --- it'd be pretty hilarious! ;) :D

If this is done I must see a video of it. That is awesome

Needs to be a DDC with ECM walking backwards. That is an even harder target to ignore. Been a while since I actively played MWO but back in my day DDCs were always high priority targets.

Large Pulse Lasers because I could and who knows... a light 'mech pilot might figure out the ruse and try something.

Its an intriguing concept but not a fan of having your weaponry unavailable for use.

A real downside is your speed would be pegged to the backwards moving atlas.....

    sloooooooooowwwwwwwwwww....

Only battlefield I can see this working on really is TT as its such a short range combat area.

A good use for a Boars Head, or a D-DC for that matter.

The only problem I see, is unless you plan to walk very very slowly backwards the whole way there, is if someone snipes your front before you turn around. Be interesting for giggles though.

It hurts so little, but I do it for Shrek(ing the enemy team).

Haha, I would really like to see that work as intended! :D
If the timing is right (which is kinda hard when back pedaling baby crawl speed), it could work great.
I'd give it a 2/10 success rate, the other 8 being either your leg taken out (and then very quickly the other one), or someone flanking you with minimal weaponry.

Clever pilots would certainly applaud you in-game for your attempt, even if you fail it. :p

We did this a few times in DV8 for the lulz way back when - 'backpedal underhive'

In reality, there's lots of players that use zero back armor... which if you think about it... is same as... this... except... well, efficient.

Never tried it on MWO but in the tabletop game I started with the rears showing just for the fun of it. Course as someone who loved running Koshis few were surprised.

LOL, glad to see that one got a few laughs.

@Magnificent Bastard --- the reason for it being a Boar's Head, and not a DDC, is for speed. Obviously, moving backwards in a 100 ton 'Mech is going to be a slow and painful crawl, which is why maximum speed is ideal. The Boar's Head is capable of considerably more speed than the DDC, hence the choice. (Though ECM is always nice to have too. ;))

It would be hilarious to see . . . especially if it worked! :p   ;) :D

I find the idea funny. But i would say it should also work if you put all Amor to the Front and just walk forwardly into the enemy team. You'd have more Speed and still draw all the enemy fire to you. I still doubt that it would work, because honestly - If the whole Enemy Team concentrate Firepower on you, you would need to have twice as much Armor to survive the Focusfire long enough so your team can make the surprise Slaughter. Have to test it. :)
