Damn I can't figure out how to post these like you guys do. Maybe if i hadn't been up for 48 hours...

If anyone is willing to repost it here in the style that the rest of them are, I'd really appreciate it.

Anyhow, I just finished my elite shadowhawk with this build, she handles as much like a light as my elited X-5 does now I think.

It hasn't got the armour or ammo I'd like, but I'm a light pilot and I wanted something that could keep up with the pack, but have a little more armour and firepower to support the true lights when you are running with them. The streaks/BAP are there to make SURE some hits are scored against the fast movers.

It adds a little extra punch and intimidation to a small group of fast light mechs.

It packs quite a decent punch for it's speed, and can reach out far with the ac's to harass as required. I use advanced zoom quite a bit.

    Any improvements/input very much appreciated.

    Hey dude,

    First, welcome to MechSpecs!

(Just remove the space before the " / " in the second bracket.)

Check here for guidelines on how to title your post correctly. For you, I think it should go:

    SHD-2H "Shock-Trooper" (2x AC2, 1x MLas, 2x SSRM2, BAP, XL360)

    Finally, comments on your build:

Interesting concept. That is one fast AC2 build! You've kind of mentioned the issues already - namely the lack of armour and ammo.

In terms of suggestions, if you're set on the dual AC2s I would maybe consider dropping down to a 350XL. You don't lose too much speed, but the extra 1.5 tons would be very handy for extra armour and/or ammo. The problem with that is obviously the expense if you've already bought the 360XL...

On the other hand, if it's the 360XL you're set on (i.e. max speed) and you want a long-range weapon I would maybe consider going with an Ultra AC5 instead of the 2 x AC2s. You'd have to take FF off to free up the slots, but it's not as expensive as getting a new engine. The UAC5 would give you some decent firepower at range and save you a couple of tons you could use on armour, or maybe to throw a third streak launcher on there.

    UAC5 build suggestion:

Armour is still pretty light, but better than it was (note that I've padded the MLas arm a bit compared with the empty arm). Staying with 2 Streaks would solve a lot of the armour problems and might be the way to go if you're getting legged often.

(Had to make a second post to show an example of the UAC5 build I was talking about because the "open" Smurfy bracket in the above post was messing things up).

Thanks for the replies you guys.

I just started playing Mwo about 9 weeks ago now, though I started with the tabletop version about 20 years ago or so.... awesome how some of those games are finally being virtualized in a respectable way... like I always wished they would do way back in the days of 386's and M.U.D's...

    Hahaha, enough nostalgia!!

I think the Ultra 5 was one of the first incarnations of this idea of mine. The problem I had there was that I would always feel left out in the cold when I need to rely on that next shot. I don't know about you guys but I seem to notice that that pause (jam) comes often, and lasts long enough that it seems to telegraph weakness to the enemy, and they end up pressing the attack.

One of the main reasons I use AC's is the intimidation factor. You can usually keep 3 or 4 heavies ducking and dodging all the way across the map with just an ac/2 if you play it right. Something about those impacts just screams: ... " s%*! s#@t! shi!tshitS#%T!!! GET OUT OF THE WAY NOWWWW!" in a way that a 9 point laser blast just doesn't quite do. But that long pause... is long enough for them to get too confident.

Maybe now that i have the 360xl, and the elite perks, I could react to the jamming quicker and get out of the way/change tactics temporarily though...

A couple of questions: Does that "fire control" program actually work? Can it regulated the ultra 5 to prevent the jams?" And if so: Is it considered both fair, and legal to use such a program in MWO, including tournament play?

Sorry if I'm long winded guys. I like to write about things I'm excited about and learning about. Peoples responses are the best way to learn more of course, and I can't just RTFM all day long...lol

Always nice to have another person who's excited about mechs around, so no problem!

Now, as to the UAC5. You raise some valid points about it. Personally, I'm not a fan of using them alone (I like things in pairs in general - maybe I'm weird), and with only one gun a macro to control the fire rate wouldn't really help you. As far as I know there are no issues with using such programs though.

So back to your build - if you like the AC2 and the 360XL, you could perhaps try something like this:

The logic here being that you can still use the lone AC2 for intimidation (one gun is as good as two for that purpose because it's about maintaining hits rather than damage), but you save some tonnage by using an ERLLas, which can supplement both your ranged and close-in damage. You could drop a ton of AC2 ammo for more armour and maybe a jump jet (it seems a little bit of a shame not to use them) if you prefer.

That's about the best suggestion I can make for keeping the 360XL and the AC2, but others may be able to offer a fresh perspective. Hope that helps.

FYI, there's a "modify" button at the top of your posts you can use to edit them. So you can go back and add Smurfy tags to your original post like I showed earlier. Otherwise a Mod should fix it for you soon.
