I did a bit of eliting my stalkers. Since every viable stalker can build the 4xLLAS 4xASRM6 i usually run, I wanted something different. So, being a bloody idiot, I turned my 5M into a light hunter.

It's horrible at light hunting if you can't use your SSRM6/SSRM10 for some reason. All weapons are bound to the torso, and it's an assault mech. You deal reduced damage past 300m already. But I did enjoy piloting it a lot. I kept running the same build while instead going to fight larger mechs since SSRMs seek out the center torso anyway, which is softened up easily by the pinpoint laser damage.

Not by any means something that wins tourneys or breaks metas or is any good, but it's just fun imho.

    Newest version, based on suggestions

    Original

    SSRM10!!!!1! ZOMG t3h haxorz!

I would be more scared of ER-PPC's in this than LRG pulse. 27 damage is enough to take off arms or even some side torsos. But I suppose you can't fit the PPC in the chest, now can you.

ER ppcs are also twice as hot and actually deal less damage (though up to much further range and such i know). This mech is also equipped with SSRM 10, so it's really not meant for the long range alphasniping with PPCs that 99% of all stalkers do. This can hold it's own against lights and brawl effectively, having SSRMs as backup even against assaults because of their unavoidable pinpoint damage.

yes, they are hotter and less(?) damage. but can you really twist fast enough to keep track of a light mech?

Even with an STD300: No you can't. However, as I wrote in the first post:
As mentioned this is just a fun build. A close range brawler that can somewhat hold its own against lights for people who are tired of PPC/LLAS boating their stalkers.

P.S. The title was specifically chosen for it's performance: Goliath refers to David vs Goliath. David wins, but Goliath is still pretty strong and large. Yeah. It made sense in my head.

Not really a hunter. More of an ambush predator. If you're lucky and they haven't clocked your load out, they might get cocky and try to COD you, at which point you unleash your five SSRM packs. Try this for an alternative:

Fire-power is more dependent on ammo, but the build is a little bit faster and BAP improves the SSRMs lock-on time.

    New version:

I built this so it can 'zombie' a bit better or pick off the lights that run from your SSRM area of doom.
ERLL in CT means that you can retreat to a much safer distance.
That opened up tonnage for BAP (as suggested) and shaving .5 ton of armor i also got in another ton of SSRM ammo.
You can trade in BAP for AMS though you don't want to be in LRM hitting range anyway.

I like the concept but it's running so much better with lasers only and a lot of heatsinks for me

on most maps you can just apha away often, won't feel that 4 gosth heat.
