I was debating to make a topic about it in the Subforum but then decided that a lot of the builds I would present were already covered. I first had this Mech set-up as a Dual AC2 + 4x SSRM Zombie build, with both Endo and FF. After a bit of tinkering, I realized that with this basic set-up: You can do almost everything. Direct Fire Support, Indirect Fire Support, Brawler, Interceptor, Flanker... it might not work fully as a Striker/Skirmisher due to the relatively small engine, but then again, the Jager was not even meant for half of the other roles when you are fully in canon. Seriously, keep the armour, engine and BAP and then play around. You can fulfill almost any role while still making proper use of the Hardpoints (if you forego them for cheese, you can do that too, obviously). No changes needed in the Mechlab regarding Endo or FF. I think when it comes to versaility and utility, this Mech can be a valuable asset/placeholder/filler for any sort of team lineup and as long as you have the spare parts, can be changed for each drop to fill a role.
So what you are say is that this basic setup of engine and armor can do everything any mech can? If that is the case, good job. If you are saying you have a weapon to tackle every mech's job, I don't think you have speed. And lately, Speed has been a major priority in my mechs. due to the fact that running into and out of fire is great in any mech, and being able to dodge Ballistic shots, messing up laser shots, and out-running LRM's. overall, I think this makes a good sitter build base. You can build anything onto this mech, and sit as the enemy comes to you as you snipe and bombard and brawl.
As I said, the small engine prevents it from being a good skirmisher/striker, but speed wise, it is not slower than most of it's brethern within the Heavy/Assault bracket which focus on a more specialized role. Catapults often run 280-300s, Phracts range from 255 to 330 depending on the loadout but other Jagers usually are around 255-280 due to usage of the hardpoints. With 69 kph you can easily trample along with the Assaults and function as an escort/support Mech for them. With an LBX and Streak Combo, you might indeed make a very good guard/sitter Mech to chase off/hunt down Lights which want to harass your backline or try to cap you out.
Sample builds using the above mentioned base: 1) The LRM Carrier with self sustained defense - Indirect Fire Support Role Two LRM15+A for the indirect fire support, giving the Jager as much firepower as your general Catapult/Trebuchet. Streaks tied to the Machine Guns to fight off Lights along with the MPLas or do some damage to exposed internals/limbs. 2) LB 10-X Light-Hunter - Escort/Cap Defender 60 rounds for the LBs mean a potential of 600 damage. If the sight of those are not enough, the 4 Streaks definitely will make a Light reconsider attacking you or the Assault/Cap Point you are covering. SMLas in case you run out of ammo or just need to get a quick shot off at an exposed body part. 3) AC5 Brawler - Direct Fire Support and Flanker Replaced the LB 10s with AC5s, upgrade the SMLas to MLas and replace the SSRMs with 2x SRM6+A and you get a nasty fire support 'Mech. Pretty straight DPS brawler, good for flanking and with the SRM6s you add a very vicious punch when you breach the enemy lines. In this case you could remove the BAP and put in an AMS for the 1.5 tons you save. 4) AC2-LRM Harasser - Direct/Indirect Fire Support Mech Know these annoying AC2 rounds hitting you from across the battlefield? How about this nasty "Incoming Missiles" warning? Now you can deliver both at once. Entirely ammo dependant and easy prey for Lights, but as long as you can stick to your team, a useful asset when it comes to supressing enemy movements. So these are 4 possible variants. I have tried to keep them rather different from one another as you can do a lot of combos within each variation. Also, I have purposefully neglected building around a Dual PPC/LLas build because I am not entirely fond of the Meta and it limits the Arm Hardpoints a lot in regards to the set ups, as well as having hip-mounted PPCs being a bit limiting when you have to duck out of cover entirely. That said, it is no problem building a LRM + LLas variant
I dont agree with the XL255 for the JM6-A. I dont see the advantage to have a small XL Engine with Speed lower than Stock unless you want to load some super heavy weapons like Dual AC20s with some MLas, though I find the JM6-A should definitely use the missile pods otherwise its a waste. In my opinion either stick to STD260 (survivability) or go for XL280 (Cool+free weight) or XL300 (Speed+Cool). In most cases i use AMS and at least two extra DHS for a decent base level of Cool Efficiency. STD260 (Brawler Builds): e.g.: [hr] XL280 (Direct/Indirect Firesupport) e.g.: or: [hr] XL300 (Sniper/Skirmisher) e.g.: Blagg
Is this a joke and im not catching it? the OP build has no weapons or anything aside from an engine, endo, ferro, and DHS. Is that just me or?... If i had to min/max id say get some weapons on there and crit pad as best you can? or is this just a general idea post?
