Just started for the challenge tournament is the closest I can come on when this change took place, but you will notice all lances are grouped by weight class as close as possible. It still looks like the spawn is random, but the lance makeups are not. Like this change? Why/why not? I'm torn. Pros: -It always sucked to be the slow mech in a lance and get left behind or raped in the circle jerk, but that was the luck of the draw. -It makes sense that lances are grouped this way. There's always a scout lance, assault/command lance, etc. Cons: - Now, when 3-4 dires are grouped together, it can be impossible to dislodge them and they'll tear through pugs too dumb to know what's going on and it snowballs from there. It makes for even more of a deathball mentality to combat this which is not the game I like to play. - It was good to punish teams that didn't incorporate their assaults into their pug-tactics. Vice versa, it makes it easier to get a lights kill lance going. Pro/Con depending on which side of it you're on, I guess.
It's way easier to convince my Daishi to all get under my delicious ECM bubble when they spawn together. That's both a good and a bad thing.
Interesting not noticed that will have a look. Its logical and gets around the extreme frustration of being the stalker that was placed with 3 lights. Depends where that assault lance spawns I guess.
It certainly can have an impact on where your team goes. If your direwolves are all on one side, the rest of the team really has to go over to them so they traverse less ground. This can lead to some sub-optimal paths taken, but overall it does a good job of making sure your assault lance isn't spread out all over the place. However, I'm not sure how I feel about having your scouts concentrated. It's usually better for scouts to spread out, but when you start concentrated people seem to be sticking together.
Was assigned in a 4 direwolf group placed at the furthest alone spawn in the beach, obviously get overrun since we cannot reach the regroup sports in time. (enemy running along the cleavage)
I personally have to say, I like this new change. Obviously, as Enileph gave example of in the previous post, it can make for pretty nasty scenarios of slow assaults getting left behind by their faster friendlies . . . but I would hope any player in this game should have the common sense to realize that leaving behind an entire lance of extremely fire-powerful 'Mechs is not only thoughtless . . . but it's actually tactically ridiculous, as you are abandoning your team to going 8v12 against both superior numbers, and superior weight and firepower. #1 rule in this game: regroup; it's a team game, play it as such #2 rule: when you regroup, always meet at a point nearest or most easily accessible to the slowest and most cumbersome 'Mechs on your team; otherwise, you abandon yourself to leaving behind the majority of your firepower. #3 rule: support your team; don't be a free-rider, 'cause it usually won't get your team (or you) a win
I like the change, it was pretty frustrating spawning in maps like river city and having the whole enemy team on you. Now 7-8 might reach you, but with 3-4 direwolves you can make them pay at least the same amount of mechs for the move.
I like it, too. Makes your lancemates more cooperative when they can't just run away in a pinch, being the single light that gets way while the heavies are fed to the wolves.
