So, like many of you I'm sure, I'm running out of chassis to purchase. The only mechs I don't have at least three of are: commando, treb, dragon, quickdraw, awesome, atlas.

I'm not about to spend the MC I have on heros for these chassis' so those are out. Which standard variants of those would you pick next?

All but the Atlases and possible AC2/Gauss dragon are completely worthless, so I'll let you pick my fate. I just hate Atlases for being so slow and dumb but I feel that's going to be the winner :(

I already have phoenix overlord and sabres. I wonder if we're ever going to get any new IS mechs before clans besides heros/champions since they're slowly dolling out those monthly.

Don't know why I voted, since the only one of these I own is an Atlas... never pilot it... If you don't like slow and..... dumb. Why not overcompensate and go with fast and frail... also has the benefit of being cheap

    Voted Commando for two reasons:

    1) Cheapest 'mech on the list so you don't have as much to lose.
    2) The ECM Commando could be good for you if you don't already have a lot of ECM 'mechs.

    I voted for the Dragon.
Mostly because the triple AC/2 DRG-5N is one of my favourite heavy mechs. It's brutal, noisy, an often underestimated by its enemies.
But I'm not that a fan of the other variants (to be honest, I sold them), though the 1C can make some nice energy-boats and the 1N is nice with 2x AC/5 + 2x LLas or similar.

About the Awesome, I really like the AWS-9M.
But the other variants are just too slow for my taste, and I believe yours too.
(not too mention, as we already discuss recently, that the mech became kind of obsolete because of the Battlemaster)

PS: Magnificent Bastard has a good point 1.
(and commandos are actually very fun to pilot)

I voted the dragon because very few people can stand to drive a fatlas, the trebuchet is garbage beyond all repair, the awesome is all right, just kinda slow and hard to get used to, while the commando would be my preferred other choice. The dragon is quick as hell, but fragile. It can pack a mean punch though.

Awesome- simply because it has an awesome panoramic view. Other cockpits are cramped and cluttered, and filled with windowpanes. But the Awesome has a great view.

    Oh yeah, and PPCs.

I am out of chassis as well. Trebuchet and the two sabre mechs are the only ones missing in my garage.

I voted Dragons because I've got an unnatural love for them despite doing only mediocre when piloting them in the past. The more recent variants are better statistic wise, though.

    Try these:
    - DRG-5N: triple AC2 or 2x AC2 + AC5 and add some ML or a Flamer (it's a dragon after all, and those energy hardpoints will get you close to OH anyway)
    - DRG-1C: the best one beside the two heroes. LBX, ERPPC (shoulder), 2x MLas is pretty good at all ranges. GR + 4 ML + SRM6 is lovely if you get the hang on the GR.
    - DRG-1N: 2x AC5, 2x MLas, 2x SSRM2, BAP, XL300 or PPC + LLas + 2x SRM4 + 2x MG @ XL325

Commandos are fantastic as well, especially Soy's 2D 'Trollmando'. But the others are much better now with the upped engine size as well. They would have been my second choice simply for being fast, nasty little hitters.

Quickdraws are rarely seen on the battlefield, but they can be equally fast like a Dragon while mounting still some punch. I for myself even consider the 5K to be a better energy boat than the TDR-5SS. The 4H either makes an evil SSRM + laser mech or can mount a lot of SRMs. Easy mode for leveling these would be 2x PPC (shoulders) + x lasers for poptarting through basics.

I like Awesomes for their look, but they seem to be inferior to both VTRs and BLRs. Hell, even ON1s are probably better because of better hit boxes. The recent changes helped a bit, but there are still issuses. The 8R is still very decent as a LRM boat, an I want to buy the 9M sometimes - but that's about it.

Atlases... yes, they are slow. But they're packing a hell of a punch combined with a lot of armor, so essentially you're trading speed for firepower and armor. DDCs are still frightening on sight for a reason, and both RS and D can do some very good loadouts. The K is special in mounting double AMS, so when PGI somehow manages to screw the balance of LRMs again this might be a valuable team member... but realistically this is usually seen as an inferior D. Can't comment on BH, but it's out anyway.

If you don't like being a barely-mobile weapons platform, the Atlas is not for you.

The Commando always felt like it was missing something. It corners too poorly to fight other lights and it can't seem to carry enough firepower to kill anything heavier than a medium.

Then there's the Dragon, which could use an overhaul. However, if you have XL engines rated 300-360, it can be a blast.

I haven't really used the others.

I voted for the Quickdraw... they are like unicorns- rarely seen and fun to kill... I'll kamikaze charge the whole enemy team just to kill one and never feel bad about dieing afterwards!!!!

Damn, I should have waited till today to buy them - already bought 3 commandos for 20mil last night and am now close to bankrupt. But, I'll slowly buy dragons as my cbills accumulate again - those look to be some decent loadouts, Aylek.

Dragon... commando if you want to use less cbills though. Commandos are ok with the speed buff given to other variants.
Well, too bad you don't want any heros, or TDK is worth it as a cheap cbills grinder also (worth picking up if it is on sale, really).

this was a joke on me to tell me to buy commandos right? lol. At least you can do some dmg in a dragon... (and no, i don't need you to pull out 700dmg scoreboard screenshots against scrubs). These are actually worse than locusts, right?

Between leveling worthless sabres and now commandos, I'm going to kill myself. PM me and I'll give you my account after shotgun to head...

Dafaq are you smoking? The Griffin and Wolverine are excellent mechs. Are you running them stock or something?

As for the Commando... nothing is worse than the Locust.

Oh, MagBast, you humor me with your talk of 'excellent'. Feel free to say they're fun or different, if you so desire, but excellent? I don't think so.

After my initial shock of the commandos getting one shotted 2 games straight, there is a certain fun factor to them, I must admit - you just have to hope a poptart isn't looking your way when you happen to be running straight.

I do appreciate the poll results, I guess I'll go Com then Drg. Thanks!

What builds are you running? Even when I'm shit-faced drunk and walking directly into the enemy I get 200+ damage in my Griffins. And sober I'm almost always getting 500-800 damage with several kills. Of course my ELO is probably low and I only play in 1-4 man groups... so that could be part of it.

I haven't played my Wolverines much, as I am focusing on mastering the Griffins first, but the builds I have for the Wolverine are almost identical to my Griffin builds. That's probably my only complaint about the two mechs... they're too similar.

What is this "Running Straight" you speak of? Is it similar to that thing I've heard of... I think it was called "standing still"?

Even zig-zap means you're going straight some of the time...

I just pulled my stats and I've got 30 games in each Griffin (~3 hours) and 20 in each Wolverine (~1.75 hours) so small sample size, but comparing these to my other mediums (BJ, Cent, Cicada, HB, Kint, Shawk), they are nowhere near on par - ESPECIALLY KDR. Griffins are middle of the pack as far as avg dmg per game, but wolverines are again at the bottom. W/L ratio is all over the board, but wolves definitely gravitate lower in the rankings - that's my big problem with them; they don't really contribute to the match and certainly can never help turn the tide; you just get carried.

    GRF-1N: avg dmg=310, w/l ratio=0.9, kdr=1.5
    3ML, 3SRM6A, 2JJ, Std275

    GRF-1S: avg dmg=360, w/l ratio=1.2, kdr=1.4
    1LL, 3ML, 2SRM6, 5JJ, XL300

    GRF-3M: avg dmg=311, w/l ratio=1.7, kdr=0.9
    2LL, 4SSRM2, 3JJ, XL300

    WVR-6K: avg dmg=243, w/l ratio=1.3, kdr=0.9
    3LL, 1ML, XL300

    WVR-6R: avg dmg=309, w/l ratio=0.8, kdr=1.3
    1AC10, 3SRM4, 1ML, 3JJ, XL280

    WVR-7K: avg dmg=262, w/l ratio=0.7, kdr=0.8
    (haven't decided what I want this variant to be)2PPC, 2SRM4, XL280

I voted Atlas.. It's one of the most iconic Battletech Mechs, cameos in almost every Intro Video. A true Mechwarrior needs to master that Big F*cking Guy! :p

While the commando isn't the best mech in the world. They are small and fast, you shouldn't die first unless you play like I do mostly and try and solo the other team. All my variants a fully capable of easily hitting 200, good rounds nearing the 400 mark. Not terrible for a 3 Ton mech.

As for the original post, my pick of the above bunch are the trebs, though with the recent barrage of LRM's I've been liking the DEC, big and slow, but don't get rained on and hits like a truck.
