I want to justify the Wave 2 pack (Hellbringer fan) and I love 80 ton fast assaults but.. It looks like the Gargoyle has about 21.5 tons of pod space with stock (422) armor since it has 6 fixed heat sinks.

Seems like it will suffer like the Summoner. My stormcrow is much faster and can carry as much or more and is durable enough.

Seems like Hellbringer/Dire Wolf/ Timber Wolf/Ryoken and maybe the new Koshi will be the only viable 'meta/competative' choices.

(My non competative choices would be inner sphere).

Yeah, the Garg has always been better on paper than in reality. Not that it was good on paper, mind you.

Each wave apparently has to have its stepchild ;) That said, as much as the Summoner tends to get hate, I did actually end up having some fantastic matches in mine with missile-based builds (LRMs and SRMs alike). The Gargoyle doesn't strike me as a great mech, but I'll still end up mastering it just to complete the set. I mean, why not, right?

Edit: That said, looking at the omnipods, I bet there will be some pretty decent builds for that bad boy when it comes out. It may not be meant to stand toe to toe with a DWF, but it's fast, which has got to count for something. Looks like you'll be able to make a hell of a laserboat, and maybe even a nasty laser/ballistic or laser/missile combo. It's too early to say for sure, but I think this thing could surprise as a powerful brawler. Still, nothing compared to that Hellbringer ;)

Durandal has it right. The Gargoyle will excel at fast hit-and-run tactics, or at racing other Assaults to the ground in Nascar mode. With mixing omnipods around, you can fit 8 Energy Hardpoints on this thing. I'm thinking, 2xLPL and 6xERML, with as many DHS as you can fit afterwards. At 90 KPH, that's a pretty deadly striker, very much like the Timberwolfs are doing at the moment. It's just 5 tons heavier, which means slightly more armor. It's absolutely true that they won't be nearly as deadly as Direwolves, or Warhawks; but if you treat them like a large Heavy, you should do just fine. ;)

Yeah in TT it really was terrible but as part of a fast attack lance this one isn't bad at all. Would I want to go toe to toe with a DWF or AS7-D/AS7-DDC in one? Probably not but I certainly take them on in my TBR with 2 LPl 4 ERML TC1 atm so I guess I'll use it in a similar way. Using my mobility!

I hope it will be a clan AWS-9M (haters gonna hate ) and if it is I'm pretty exited.
The mech is suppose to be a heavy energy boat, so I don't think the fixed DHS are that much a problem, you'd probably want to mount more anyway.

So it goes same speed as timber wolf, 5 tons heavier, no option for JJ.

People rubbing their hands to fit it with basicly same loadout as MetaWolves.

    What am I missing?

And do not compare it to the Awesome! Awesomes are awesome.

*Edit: and if you max armor it has way less space than a timber with that massive 400XL.

I'd say it may be the Pretty Baby of Wave II.

I know. That's why I want it to be the clan AWS.

I bought the $20 package for the premium time and other bonuses only. I do not want any of the mechs in the package.

Don't get me wrong I don't want pure OP meta mechs, because I really want the Summoner $55 A La Carte but it doesn't seem worth it, unless I buy the pack and get the kit fox and adder too meh.

Summoner will always have a place in my heart.

I just ... Don't see a point of man O' war vs timber wolf....

Yeah, five tons, basically same speed, loses option for JJ looks like a raw deal. TBR's flexibility with missile and ballistic hardpoints in the torso is hard to argue with as well.

But I think it should be considered that Goyle is:
D has better uni-beam (IS zombie config, but clans can't really zombie) potential than TBRs.
A can pack a MEAN left hook and better convergence than energy-boating TBRs.
Prime...well, okay, the Prime looks like a poor TBR if taken as a Prime only Omnipod loadout. Ballistic + Energy in each arm combined with a chest beam is something TBR does just fine and probably better.

But taken together, you can build a Goyle with:
    LA - 4 energy
    RA - 1 ballistic, 1 energy OR 2 energy
    CT - 1-2 energy
    LT - AMS

and we also don't know what quirks are being thrown around yet. I think the chassis will be able to find a place, and being the Clan AWS (underappreciated awesomesauce) I think is probably going to be an appropriate analogy.

I hope they give it a fast torso twist and more agility than a TBR. Summoner could use an agility buff as well to bring them up into their niche better. I love fast mobile strikers, no matter the tonnage.

And being a clan Awesome is actually the one thing in Gargoyle's favor to me... Those big engined humanoid mechs should be able to out-maneuver the similar sized bird mechs since they usually have off set weird hardpoints and taller profiles.
