On the "random" bit. You will probably find the somewhat right level of players if you play at the same time everyday/week. But playing in unusual times you would notice the player levels are quite different. This happens in other games also, and is more serious when the games are more localized. Something to do with player demographics at different time intervals I think. Also, the way they average out creates some really weird team combinations. It is a bit of a lucky draw, especially if you mostly PUG. You all probably had those games where you are catching up with your team where they are steamrolling everything, or the game where you get 5 kills running into the 1000+ club yet still losing the game. Also, as far as PUG goes, they will slip you into anywhere to make the team work, which means you can be placed more outside of your Elo... especially true in weird hours, since they do not seem to do the "cannot find a match" thing anymore.
I definitely get a lot of randomness in my games...had one last night where 3 people were on their first game ever. Not bad enough? ExMachIIIna, Mister D, Edmeister, and Yokilin were all on the opposite team. It wasn't even a contest, we started out down a lance basically.
I'm currently giving the Cataphracts 1X and 2X a second chance. So I was on my 2X, still not sure what to do on this variant, and I see a lance mate (solo queue) also piloting this mech. So I ask what their build was, for inspiration. Guess what... LRMs... please kill me. And this one I encountered few days ago. Based on the default loadout (same engine), but worst (no jets, one less laser, useless artemis), how is it possible? (wild guess)
Yeah, I have a feeling like that Grasshopper just may win this duel. I am trying to figure out what he did with this build. He actually went out and paid real money for the SDR-5K(C), and it comes fully upgraded. But he's running at 148.5 kph, which is either a 250 engine with speed tweak or a 275 without, so he must have taken out the XL255 that it comes with, then removed the ERLLas and the JJs (!?) to squeeze in a STD250. But that means he's already elited it, so, idunno, that build is just not well thought out.
Actually this is how a piece of shit stock mech is! This is stock. Alt. Config. C A close range brawler, the Summoner C is armed with a single ER Large Laser for long range sniping at enemy targets but truly comes into its own at close range. The 'Mech relies on a powerful Ultra Autocannon/20 for quick kill capabilities at close ranges. This is backed up by a highly accurate Streak SRM-6 launcher to seek out weak points in an enemy's armor and an ER Small Laser. BV (1.0) = 2,168[2], BV (2.0) = 2,379[3][10]
Enileph is correct, that is actually the stock configuration for the Summoner-C variant (check Smurfy, you'll see)!
Aaaaaaaaaaaaand this is why I have a post going about improving the trial mechs While the SMN-C is not a current trial, it's yet another example of how making those stock builds into trial mechs is just a disaster (the former SMN-Prime stock trial was just as bad).
While it can look decent it's a build I'd never run. The 2x ERPPC @Solahma's "Zeus" is on the edge of being too hot with much more DHS and 2 ERLL less, this setup wastes a lot of DPS. Plus the timber only has 2 good sniper hardpoints in the STs and one in the CT, so it's another negative point. Just makes me cringe. If he really wanted to add one ERLL : This is something I might actually test in CW.
I was leveling Basics like this last night at 6am when we ran into each other. Writhen prolly didn't kill me out of sheer terror/confusion of seeing this build in that final 2v1 situation.
Hey at least we won. *shrug* Btw I'm seeing a lot of hero mechs this weekend; I'm assuming cuz this sale.
